Please can you help me! My manual is at home! I have a small amount of oil weeping from a bolt head that is under the left hand side of my radiator. I have been told by many a mechanic not to mess with it as it's probably cross threaded and if I tried to take it out and rescrew it it would probably need the whole thing taking off and rethreading. I've recently taken a trip where at the end the engine overhaeted slightly, I only worked this out as coolent was being chuked out the overflow hose, My bike has been slightly chopped and modified (before I had it) and I do not posess a temp guage clock. Can you clarify for me 1. How does the radiator actually work does it contain oil and is it cooled thru an interface with the coolent or is the radiator split i.e. contains part oil part coolent. Please exquse my ignorance! ". Would it be advisable to look for another radiator (say at a breakers) and replace it asap given the recent overheating problem? Thanks for your help. Angie (Spike)
You have 2 rads the smaller 1 is the oil cooler which if you have a leak from the bolt which comes from this. then when the pipe is removed there is a rubber seal on the end of the oil cooler hose. this has probably gone/perished and needs to be replaced. the other rad contains water and antifreeze and is part of the engine cooling system. make sure this is kept filled with a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze...hope this helps
