Where is the air filter located on a 2007 Yamaha Roadliner S? I've heard under the seat (don't see it) and also heard that I have to take gas tank off. Anyone know which it is? Also have K&N filters and kits on my vehicles but just bought this 2007 (close out older "new" model) Roadliner S and curious if it will really make a difference just dropping the insert K&N filter in to replace the OEM. Anyone have any real life experience with this? I've heard the stock filter from Yamaha is actually much like a K&N on the Roadliners and that I would not notice an HP increase whatsoever. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. Loving this bike like I've never loved a bike before, but if a drop in K&N will giver her even a bit more I'll go forward with it.

Depends on your style ofriding I would have thought taking it easy you could get 50 miles to the gallon maybe a bit more. Use the throttle wildly maybe mid 30's. My Suzy 650 will return 55ish if used carefully 33 if I thrash it.
Below the tank there should be about 4 bolts holding the tank to the frame, loosen then and lift the tank enough from seat side, you should be able to access the wiring and plugs.
the air filter is under gas tank you will have to take the gas tank off there a black box it has 4 or 5 screws in it. i have a 1996 yamaha royal star i put a k&m air filter in mine they are the best last a long time. prices on filter are mark up
The air intake (and therfore, air filter element) on a Yamaha roadliner is under the fuel tank. However, to get to the airbox you do not need to completely remove the tank:
Empty the tank, set a table or bench next to the seat to put the tank on when it is removed from the bike. Remove the seat, Remove the two bolts at the rear of the tank, Remove the three screws from the chrome dash, disconnect the cables at the front of the dash. Remove the two bolts in the front of the tank, Lift the tank. there is enough length and flex in the fuel lines that you do not have to disconnect them. Just lay the tank on the table.
Remove the 3 bolts from the instrument cluster on the tank, remove the wiring connectors to the instrument cluster under the front of the cluster, remove the tank and the filter is in the top of the box under the fuel tank. You are supposed to remove the fuel lines, but if you are careful you can set the front of the tank off to the left side of the bike and support it with a cahair or something similar so that the fuel lines don't have to be reconnected. OOOOPS forgot...you need to remove the seat first.
