Are you sure the bulbs are ok? Yes it would be a strange coincidence they both stopped at same time. Sounds like a ground connection to lights may be the problem. Trace wire back from head lights see if you see any problems. Heatlight dim relay may be the problem or conections to and from it. It's ground connection may be the problem.

Head lights on td5 defender not working.Alarm sounds when light stalk is turned on,any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

First check the fuse, must be battery voltage both sides, if ok check voltage both sides of stalk switch, if ok check voltage at head light relay, ( some relays may have a fuse ) if ok check voltage at head light bulb terminal. It is possible both bulbs are burnt out but not likely .

When i turn on the head light it doest light up

Check and confirm, that headlight bulbs are glowing. If the bulb itself is faulty, it will not light. If bulb checked out, ok, then other possibility can be headlight fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. There are two 15a fuses located in the fuse holder assembly on the driverside engine compartment.Check both this fuses. Also check the relays in the fuse compartment.-------- If any of the fuse or relay is blown, replace that and see.But if all fuses and relay checked ok, then its quite possible that problem is with head light switch itself. Its getting short.------------
This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.
