These cars usually have disk brakes in the back. You need a caliper piston rotator tool, this tool fits into the caliper piston and you must turn it in to retract the piston, it fits onto a 3/8 " drive socket wrench. Npa sell a universal one for like $15.00 - $20.00.

I'm not 100% sure, but i do believe so. First of all, for working on a volks you need the special 12 pan torx bits. Normal torx bits have 6 pans. And also, you probably will need a special caliper piston compressor, cause if i remember it right you also need to turn the piston clockwise while pressing on it. It's not just for volks though, it can also be used on any caliper to help compress the piston back into it's original place to get the new pads on. Most local parts store can either sell or rent that compressor so just ask about it. Here i rented mine at Canadian Tire but i'm not sure all the CT stores rent them though. Anyway, any place that sells and/or rents special mechanics tools will have the kit in question.

Yes , you need a special tool to rotate the caliper piston clockwise in order to compress it to install new pads. Refer to harborfreight.com to find the tool you need.

Passat 2003 tdi, brake pad change..

Proper size wrenches and a large C-clamp to push piston back into the caliper is only tools for the front, but back disk brakes require special tool to TURN the piston as it is pushed back into caliper to reset emergency brake. This tool can often be borrowed from Auto parts store or purchased from Harbor Freight http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=40732 for about $20. Don't try to service rear disks without the tool, Calipers can be broken if not retracted properly!

Replacing disc brakes on a 2000 v.w jetta

When I changed my sisters VW Jetta I used the follow:
  1. Lug Wrench
  2. Ratchet
  3. Socket to fit the caliper bolts (can't remember size)
  4. C-Clamp to push the piston back in
  5. Bucket to set the caliper on while changing the pads
On the rear brakes I had to borrow the special tool to push in rear disc brakes from AutoZone, this tool spins the piston while pushing it back in.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks for an honest rating and thanks for using FixYa!

Rear Brakes 2005 Jetta

im sorry bro i find that you needing special tools a load of bs. i may be wrong but i really really doubt it. brakes are easy. first locate the caliper and there should be 2 bolts holding that tight. loosen the top bolt and then take out the lower bolt from the caliper. the old pads should just fall out. remove the master cylinder cap. (the jug with brake fluid in it.) compress the piston replace the old pads and push the claiper back down on the rotor. tighten bolts back up pump the brakes till hard with the car off and then repeat for the other side.

How do you replace rear rotors and brake pads on 2006 Jetta

There is a special tool you need to do this. It is virtually impossible to do without this tool. I got mine from Harbor Freight for $20. the kit comes in an small orange case and has multiple heads and it pushes and turns at the same time. Do not use a C-clamp, it will damage the piston. This tool still does use some manual labor, but it is worth it when you save a few hundred dollars doing it yourself!

Anything to watch when changing pads and rotors on a 2006 Tucson?

Not really anything special, just if you have rear disc brakes there is a special tool you need to push (rotate) the caliper piston in because of the fact they are special calipers equipped for parking brake function.
