Cruise control wont work with lights.

When I am driving my van for long distances and I turn on the running lights, the cruise control will not turn on. If they lights are off they cruise will turn on. How can this be fixed?

Chevys with cruise control won't work when light switch is turned on. That is normal. the





The NTSB(National Transportation Safety Board)doesnt reccomend using Cruise Control  on any motor vehicle when driving in low light conditions, so Chevrolet designed most Cruise Control units to turn off when you turn your headlights on. To prove this for yourself, turn your Cruise Control on during the daytime, make sure Cruise is working andthen turn on your headlights. Your Cruise Control will immediately diengage. Now turn your headlights off and restart your Cruise Control. Your Cruise Control should work  properly.If your vehicle is equipped with DRL(Daylight Running Lights), These lights will not affect your Cruise Control.My '98 Chevy Express Van works the same way. You can also verify this through your local Chevy dealer.

Where are fuses for cruise control
If cruise control main light comes on but you cannot set a speed (no set), you could have a bad brake pedal switch.
(If the cruise control light comes on, chances are that it is NOT a fuse issue).
Some vehicles have two switches (one for brake lights and one for cruise control cancel) and others have a multifunctional, single switch.
The function to cancel cruise control is very sensitive so it only takes a small movement of the pedal to cancel cruise control.
You can try lifting on the brake pedal while trying to set the cruise, but this does not alway work. Replace switches are pretty cheap (less than $30) and pretty easy and quick to replace.

The fact that the light comes on is a good indication that the electronics are working, the most common problem is a vacumn leak. This can be a damaged or cracked vacumn line, a bad check valve, or the dump switch on the brake pedal

What causes my cruise controll to not work intermittenly
cruise control starts working above 50kmh, so if your under that it wont work. the cruise servo may be at fault, or I have seen battery acid leak down on the vacuum lines causing cruise not to work correctly. cruise control works off of a vacuum so without it, it wont work. if the cruise light doesn't turn on when pressing the set/cruise button intermitantly it may be the switch itself that is starting to fail

Ford focus cruise control
Once you have turned your cruise control on accelerate to desired speed press SET button on right hand side of steering wheel before lifting foot from accelerator, then remove foot from accelerator. pushing RESUME button will deactivate cruise control without turning it off. Then when clear of traffic push resume again to activate cruise control. It will automatically resume to previous set speed.

My Cruise Control Wont work, is there a special way to turn on the cruise, because the sign for cruise comes up but it doesnt cruise
First, your car must be in gear and driving approx more than 60 km an hour
Secondly, using the Cruise Stalk switch turn the Cruise on, the dash should now have a lit icon for cruise power (green).
Once you have the desired speed, gently press the button on the end of the cruise in to set your speed. Remove foot from throttle and confirm cruise is active. Another dash light should come on as well (orange)

Failing that, if it doesnt work the usual suspect like fuses and the brake pedal micro switch should be looked at...

Yes, it probably is the brake switch. It must be working properly for the cruise control to work. If the part you got did not come from a car with cruise control, it will only have two electrical posts and not the four that you need.
If it is the right part, it must be turned in until the button is pushed completely, but not so far that it begins to actuate the master cylinder. Please report your results.
