Check for broken motor mount, trans linkage is mounted at some point to the engine and/or trans. When engine moves your linkage adjustment will change.

You have a failed & worn out transmission Seldom do they go 150,000 without a rebuild Pull it out,no need to keep asking or worrrying Its done,I once owned a trans shop if that helps
yes, that is normal. that car has what is called CVT trans. infinite gear ratios. does not shift. what you feeling is the trans working.no issue. a lot of people have issues/don't like it, but nothing to worry about. plus Nissan extended their warrantee on CVT trans to 120000 miles. so don't worry about it, unless you have that already.
When the peddle is pressed really hard the trans is supposed to increase the shift firmness. The problem may be that the engine has some power problem which makes the trans look like the problem. If the engine is not operating correctly power wise hard shifting will occur. If the car has a trans shift cable and it is adjusted incorrectly it will also shift hard. If the trans has vacuum modulator that is out of adjustment or going bad it will also shift hard. Many trans shops will test drive it for free so let the trans shop advise you for free and save some time.
well if it shifts very hard into every gear that means the pressure control solenoid in the trans went bad and it causing the trans to go to max line pressure thats why it shifts so hard,,,it does that so you can still drive it even thou it broken, anyhow the PC solenoid is under the trans pan which is on the TOP of the trans under the battery,,,,not too hard a job to do, the parts are about $100 labor might be about $200,,,easy fix,,could be alot more,,,and if you dont fix it ,it will break other stuff in the trans and cost alot more,,,
It's hard to understand when you say it feels like a manual shift. Noise? Feel? I do know that the 87 auto trans does have a weak 1st to 2nd shift drum (as explained to me by my mechanic) that makes a grinding, elongated shift under heavy acceleration when it starts to wear. Under normal acceleration, 1st to 2nd shifts were normal (crisp, immediate). Since that day 8 years ago, I've avoided starting off to quickly, and so far have saved myself a tranny overhaul.
