PCV - positive crankcase ventilation.

one way passage for gases to escape in a controlled manner from the crankcase of an internal combustion engine.
This is necessary because internal combustion inevitably involves a small but continual amount of blow-by, which occurs when some of the gases from the combustion leak past the piston rings (that is, blow by them) to end up inside the crankcase, causing pressure to build up in the crank case. For control of the pressure inside it, a PCV is used to vent the crank case

Engine code po496 2006 chevy trailblazer

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0496 means that there is purge flow through the Evaporative Emissions System (EVAP) during non-purge. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) measures fuel tank pressure by reading the voltage from the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor (FTP). The PCM controls the pressure by opening and closing the EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid Valve (CPV). It accomplishes this by grounding and un-grounding the control circuit to the CPV. When the CPV is open, engine vacuum is applied to the EVAP canister and ultimately, the fuel tank itself. When this happens the pressure inside the tank drops, causing a voltage change in the FTP sensor.
This code sets when there is a pressure drop in the tank when the CPV is commanded closed (there should not be any vacuum applied).

The code can actually be caused by several things. It could be caused by a faulty FTP sensor giving false readings to the PCM. It can be caused by a voltage drop in the FTP sensor circuit caused by wire corrosion or a bad/corroded connector, etc. It can be caused by a short to ground in the CPV control circuit, causing the CPV to be "ON" all the time. It can be caused by a CPV that is just plain stuck and will not close properly.

A faulty or "stuck" CPV is the most likely cause of the problem however, the rest of the circuits and sensor involved should be checked for proper operation before replacing any parts. (It would be a total waste of your money to replace the CPV only to find that you have a shorted control circuit.)

I have an 02 jeep grand cherokee and it is making a tapping noise in the engine. when parked we can here it. We havnt ran it out of oil/ but people have asked if it had any. has only been doing this about...

put a few squirts of washing up liquid into the oil and half a pint of diesel ,run for a couple days and if the noise stops then change the oil for a detergent petrol/diesel oil ,and the filter .Then change the oil every 6000 miles with a filter every third oil change but only use a cheap oil nothing expensive and ignore anyone who say use this expensive oil it only needs changing every 20.000 miles as this is what happens it builds up clag in the engine and gums up the hydraulic tappets along with everything else ,do it my way and the engine will run for ever

1988 Ford F250, 4.9L engine. Runs sluggish

EGR is maybe stuck open. disconnect the vac hose at the EGR valve and see if the idle smoothes out. If the EGR is sitcking open, thats a vac leak. If that fixes it, replace the EGR solenoid valve.

1993 Ford F250 engine quit

Yes that is possible. Did you try and hook up lines together that go into the valve to see if it would run. Also check to see if there is fuel to injectors.
