I have a 1997 Suzuki sidekick 4x4 with a 473T Valet remote car starter. The starter worked fine for the last 5 years. Now at times while driving the car will shut down right out of the blue. Then runs rough. start again and car will run fine. Now we cannot drive car. When we try to use command start the car starts, runs for two seconds, then shuts down. Start the car manually, starts fine, then when I press the brake pedal, dash lights flicker off then on again. Put into gear, release the brake pedal and the dash lights flicker off and car will shut down completely. Starts fine again until I press brake pedal and does the same once again. Does it need to be reprogramed? If so, I will need a manual to reprogram as there wasn't one when we purchased our vehicle. Thanks, Darrell

take the minijeep to a reputable custom shop who does remote starts. They can fix your problem in just a couple of hours. The remote start has malfunctioned, or was wired wrong to begin with. Don't worry, it won't cost very much for the repair.

Hi Darrell. nice double post and this is a custom system

take those to any auto repair or autoelectric and show them those docs and ask them to fix it.

so what are your choices, only 2.
  1. tow it to a shop (with docs)
  2. learn to fix it your self. (ask)
  3. remove this hacked up system from car return car to stock so any shop on earth can fix it and not cost a fortune figuring out the hacks. (and time getting documents to learn all that $$$ labor)

ive done #3 many a time, alarms (trash), and remote bs.

Can you reprogram a 1996 Suzuki Sidekick remote?

For a 94-97 single button remote:

- Flip Valet switch to ON position
- With key in ignition, turn key to ON, then OFF
- Flip the valet switch to OFF, then ON/OFF, ON/OFF (that's twice), and you should hear a confirmation siren chirp.
- Turn the ignition switch On/OFF, ON/OFF (twice), and you should get another confirmation chirp.
- You are now in programming mode. Push button on the remote, and you should hear a chirp to confirm programming completed successfully.
- After 5 seconds, the programming mode will close automatically.

Good Luck and please rate 4thumbs up for the free answer and also please leave a Testimonial Thank You.

04 Escalade w / Valet Starter, all works but door locks

Hello 7suds,

Well, I'd go back and tell them about the doorlock problem. I know that 2 years is a little late to start complaining, but it's most likely a really easy fix.

The most probably causes are that the power doorlock output was either not programmed, programmed incorrectly, or it's not connected or improperly connected to the vehicle servos. Have the installer check the programming, especially the doorlock pulse duration. It's also possible that the remote is simply not sending the doorlock signal. Could just be a bad button. Have them switch the doorlock function to the right "AUX" button temporarily and see if that works. But in any case, the system needs to be tested to find out exactly what is causing the doorlock failure.

Hope this helps.
