Trimmer model: Sears 358.796121 Engine: 4 cycle B&S model 21032, Type: 0112 E1, Code: 0407212A Have tried EVERYTHING to get this to start, or at least sputter: Nice blue spark when cranking, spark plug when installed in another engine runs fine, so it's not the plug. Tried new plug anyway, does nothing, not even a sputter. Starting fluid/gas into carb intake does nothing, not even a sputter( rebuilt carb while it was out). Removed carb, starting fluid/gas directly into intake does nothing, not even a sputter. Starting fluid/gas directly into sparkplug hole does nothing, you guessed it, not even a sputter. I have ignition, evidenced by the spark, I have fuel(fresh) and when that didn't work, I tried starting fluid. Looked into camshaft cover, can see tappets and valve stems following cam up and down, so its not a hanging valve. Have good compression. Now what to do? It is super clean, so it can't have been used much, guy said it was running one day, then just stopped.

Try leaving the chokey partially engaged. Operate it this way for a few minutes until the engine is thoroughly heated then move to the run position. If this does not work return it.
run engine to tdc compression stroke with plug out, and then set the piston 1/4 " past tdc on power stroke , then set the valve clearance at this piston position to ( off the top of my head about 0.003" inlet and 0.005" ex )
think these engines are briggs ohv single vertical
if you get model and type codes from your engine plate eg 351777-0112-e1
