I have a Suzuki gz125 marauder and there seems to be excessive play on the gear shifter. I also have a problem selecting neutral. I don't know if these problems are connected, but any advice would be appreciated

A good place to start is the pinch bolt that tightens the shift lever to the shaft- but if its only neutral you have a problem with it could be more than that-has it got 'false neutrals' ?

SOURCE: Gear shifter adjustment

The VZ 800 ,has a linkage system ,it can be adjsted to suit your needs .Firstly , your linkage attaches to the front foot lever.on the other end the linkage attaches to the actual gear box.Its this part that you need to adjust ,Undo the bolt that holds the linkage bracket to the gearbox spline. slide the bracket of the spline .undo all the adjusting screws on the linkage rod ,position the gearbox linkage unit to the required angle you need to position the foot lever to the popsition you want and the adjust the linkage rod to suit the distance between the garebox liinkage unit and foot change.

Gear Selecting

it might be your gears which are worn out and causing gear slips.. but there is high probability of your clutch plates getting spoilt.. the clutch plated work as disengaging the gears shaft to the main engine shaft.. sometimes when the clutch plates are very much use enough..,they stop working and cant retain to disengage the gears.. so first of all get your clutch checked well and then preoceed if it doesn't fix your problem.. heyii there is a shaft coming ut of the engine crank that connects to your transmission shaft which drives your gears and hence wheels.. so your 2nd gear must have worn out and for that reason the gear isn't working well.. get your gear box opened and check the gear.. Belated Merry X-mas and Happy New Year [:)]
