Actually, the exhaust doesn't have any valves. There's an actuator on one of the pipes. It will close one section during warm up to assist in warming up the cats. After a little while, they'll open up the other one. However, the only connection between the actuator and the flap is a small metal clip. It's not uncommon for this to snap off or go flying off while you drive.

The exhaust has a valve that closes on low rpm situations to limit dB level. It will open when you step on the gas enough opening both exhaust pipes

Blowing white smoke out of exhaust pipe

White smoke is usually a sign for a bad head gasket. How much white smoke is coming out? Also, are you losing coolant and can't find a drip under the engine?

2003 lincoln aviator/how do you know if there's motor damage

Your car shouldn't have just suddenly started burning oil. Its possible it's leaking in the engine compartment and the leak is dripping onto the hot exhaust manifold and the. The smoke is blowing out the back as you drive. I would think it's unlikely that the engine has been damaged since the check-engine light should have come on if the oil level was low enough to cause damage.

If hii find that bluish smoke is coming from the exhaust pipes, then the next thing to check is whether it smokes on acceleration or deceleration. If the latter, it may be just a valve issue. If it smokes a lot on startup, then it may be rings.

Low oil

It should be under factory warranty, so let the dealer handle it.

Hi,recently noticed a smoke(smells like exhaust smoke) coming from underneath my drivers side wheel arch when I start the engine on my Audi A6 1.9tdi.What could be the problem..?

There are couplings that hook the manifold to the exhaust.... flex pipes.. about the size of large can of soup... they allow the engine to flex when you punch the gas.... they meet on both sides right underneath the bottom of the engine.... Google "audi a6 flex pipe" you' ll see them on ebay..... its the braided part... Go anywhere but MIDAS! to have it fixed... about $225 per side... That's what my problem was...... good luck

Gas comming out of the tail pipe check engine light does not come on.

Chances are it is water coming out this is normal to notice some water dripping out of exhaust periodically as the car runs, If the liquid actually smells like gas i am at a lose I have never heard of this occuring.

It blows out smoke from the exhaust pipe, any idea of what it is?

check for engine's compression...the problem might be due to the valves too. smoke indicates incomplete burning of fuel. hope this helps

Smoking

Are you loosing coolant? If you are, you may have a leaking head gasket. Coolant will leak into the cylinder and is turned to steam as the engine is running and comes out the exhaust as steam.
