Check for external air intake leak between the inlet boot and head. it sounds like you are experiencing a "lean" condition in the fuel system.

It has a place for a pipe on the carb inlet manifold ,but has a little rubber cap over it and there doesn't seem to be a place on the head to connect the a pipe to.do you think it could need piston rings?

SOURCE: 2 stroke engine smokes. how do you adjust the fuel/oil mixture?

The thing with two strokes is that they smoke a bit under normal operation, and they smoke like mad if they haven't really been run for a period of time, I would advise you to run it for a while and see if that helps.

You should not need to adjust the mixture settings at all.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: quad bike keeps cutting out

ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors.
Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor. There may be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
< < READ CLOSELY > >
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Before putting the slide back in the throat of the carb, move the clip on the jet needle one notch lower. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

SOURCE: my RAM 100cc quad bike wont start.

You need to check if there is any leaks from the carb to the motor. Make sure the carb is clean. An airleak could prevent the motor from starting as well as checking the carb itself ....the floats the jets things in that nature.

What would cause smoke to pour out of tail pipe of a 50cc scooter?

Two stroke engines smoking, is considered normal provided what type of oil is put in the oil reservoir. If it's synthetic or semi-synthetic or standard. Upon start up, a 2 stroke engine will smoke more cold than when at opperating temperature (hot).
There is an adjustment at the carberator which regulates the amount of oil the pump can deliver to the engine at a given throttle position. This setting is done at the factory and is not recommended to change due to the fact by changing the setting could starve the engine of oil and destroy the it. Hope this info. helps.

Hi i have a dinli 100cc quad bike .the quad will nt start and there is no ignition i have checked the spark plug so can you help me if you can i will be very happy

I assume that is a 100cc, 2 stroke ATV? If the starter motor is spinning, and you just don't have any spark. First, replace the spark plug. If that doesn't fix it, then you may have one of the following problems: Bad CDI, Kill Switch or Rip Cord Shut off switch, Frayed wire shorting out, cracked/damaged spark plug cap, bad coil or coil wire, bad stator. My bet is on the kill switch and/or Lanyard/Rip Cord shut off switch or the CDI. You can bypass your shutoff switches to see if they are the problem by either disconnecting the wires or connecting them together(depending on the type of system you have). CDI's routinely fail on small engines and generally cost about $20-$70, depending on the style. www.solanocycle.com

Losing power as the engine warms up is often caused by a sticking ring on the piston. This mostly happens on the exhaust side of the piston due to a lean mixture of air/fuel. Lean means too much air. what does your plug look like ? white+ashy? You may benefit by simply re-ringing the piston. It's easier than crank seals.

I think you might want to change catagories, I found this under Bicycles. Also, I was curious as to how you can list it as a Quad Bike . . . Bike is a short term for Bicycle, Bi meaning 2 as in 2 wheels.
