Testimonial: "How do you test the ignition. I have tested the voltage on the white wire on the sensor and it is supposed to fluctuate as the rear wheel spins. It doesn't do this. replacing the sensor only works for about 3000 miles"

2001 Harley Davidson XL Sportster 883 no spark

Hi, Scott and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
5. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting/leaking, spark plug cable connections loose check for spark leakage in the dark.
6. Faulty ignition coil or electronic control module.
7. Faulty CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
8. Faulty ignition switch.
9. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
10. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

2004 harley davidson sportster 883 xlc, engine light on in speed odometer, bike is running fine want to know what the light is for and why it is staying on

The ECM has popped a code. Your owners manual will tell you how to retrieve the code using the turn signal switches and reading the code in the odometer. Otherwise you will have to either buy a code reader (dealer can order you one if not in stock) or have the dealership service department hook the bike up to Digital Tech to read and earase the code.

2000 harley sportster 883,speedometer wont work

If you're lucky it might be the Sensor. This is located in the top of the gearbox casing just below the starter. This is a hall effect device and as such is magnetic. It can pick up metal fragments from inside the gearbox. Its held in by a single screw. It can be a bit fiddly to remove. Take it out and remove any debris from the magnetic body.
If not the sensor, then it would probably be best to substitute in a working speedo. Be careful though because the speedo post 2004 is not compatible (after that the bike has a computer). Make sure any replacement speedo is 1995 to 2003.
