Question about Honda Motorcycles

1 Answer

When I switched the eco-throttle on my Honda EU1000i, the idle doesn't go down, I replaced the carburetor with a new one (OEM) but the problem is still there. Any suggestions on the problem?

Someone suggested that the eco-throttle motor could be defective, that is why I replaced the carburetor with a new one. It was working last year and the only thing I did was change the oil with Mobil-1 synthetic oil and drain the carburetor for storage. I will appreciate any answer. TIA

Hard to give adequate answers when it is unknown what year the bike is but if the problem started with the eco throttle replacement it is most likley ypou ahev the wrong pasrt, a defective part or the installation was not done properly.

Testimonial: "Firt, I like to thank you for your reply. I'm really sorry this question was placed on the wrong category. It is a Honda EU1000i Generator NOT motorcycle. I'm not sure what year because I bought it used. On the service manual (just saw a few pages in the net), it says access the throttle control motor mounted on top of the carburator, test the resistance between terminals 1-3,and 2-4 and resistance should be 50-70 ohms at each. I have done this and it is per specifications (both on the new and the old eco-throttle motor). I also traced the wires from the motor to the inverter assembly to check the continuity and it is good. Beyond this test, I don't know what else I could test or replaced."

Sounds like a governor issue. Check linkage to governor.

Oct 23, 2017 | Yamaha EF2800i Generator

1 Answer

The generator will not hold the load.

Confirm that the ECO-Throttle Switch is in the off position. When in the ECO mode the unit goes into an idle condition and when detecting a load will spin up to operate the load.

In the off position the unit will remain in the ready for load speed taking the initial load with less hesitation.

If this does not solve the problem it is likely the carburetor has some old fuel residue. This residue restricts the fuel flowing through the carburetor. Suggest using a fuel additive carburetor cleaner added to fresh fuel and allow the unit to run under load for an extended period. These gas treatment products are readily available at any auto parts store.

These carburetors have no adjustment for fuel mix and after trying fresh fuel and cleaning the fuel system with additive the only remaining choice would be cleaning or replacing the carburetor.

Sounds like snow blower has been sitting since last season. Remove carburetor shield and move throttle linkage at top of carburetor. They some times seize or tighten up from sitting.Spray with WD-40 or something to lubricate.

How to adjust carburetor on a 20HP V-Twin Kohler Engine, it will not idle properly

The problem is more likely that the gas has varnished inside the carb. Mine did the same thing and I cleaned the carb and it ran great afterwards.

Now I have the carb off again because someone dumped a bag of sugar into my gas tank and it got sugar all through the system and into the carb and engine. I couldn't believe how much sugar is in there. Now I'm trying to find a diagram or schematic to show the exact set up for reinstalling the choke and throttle linkage and the spring with the throttle.
