SOURCE: 1985 190e Engine turns over, won't start

when the car ignition is turn on all accessory lights should lite up telling the computer everything is in good contact. If none of the dash lights is not lighting up you don't have a good ignition contact and computer is not getting any power. your stater will crank and turn the engine over only but the fuel pump and ignition module and other accessary is not turn on, the car will not start. What turn everything on is your computer, computer; control all items like fuel pump, sparks etc. You have to get all dash light working again in order for computer to turn on. Check all the fuses and relay under the hood, next your ignition switch in your steering wheel may be faulty allowing only starter to work and not others. this unit wear out and common problems to all cars, parts is 35 buck to replace and you going to have to take the steering columns apart to get to it. Not easy but it will take time. Get all the dash light working and you will be back in the game. good luck and hope that help some

Is the theftlock light lit up on the dash? It it is you may have a problem with the GM manufacturer theftlock device. The Theftlock system prevents the vehicle from being started without its own key and shuts of the fuel injectors which is typically why it turns over but won't start. It's quite problematic on mine and locks the car so you have to replace the cylinder.

If the "Theft System" light is flashing on in the dash sit in the car with the key in the "On" position. When the light stops flashing it will light solid for a second then go out. Open and close the driver side door, turn the car off, turn and start the car. This resets the theft lock and I kid you not it works.

SOURCE: new 2009 VW Jetta has occaisional starting

Yes, we were told by our Service Manager that they are having issues with the 2.5 engine. But, don't know what the issue is. We were told to use 91 Octane fuel, purchase gas from Top Tier gas retailers and park the car in the garage (keep the car warm). The car should be able to run on the recommened low grade gas (stated in the owners manual). I have the Technical Bulletin from VW. It basicaly states us consumer are getting contaminated gas and we need to purchase gas at Top Tier retailer. Shame on VW for blaming the consumer on their engine issues. VW could be the new cover up?

I have a 2003vw jetta the epc light is on and the will not come out of park nor the stop lights come on,I have already changed the brake switch and still won't work..

EPC light should have nothing to do with the shift interlock,(EPC is traction control) should be a small cap or plug on the console, near the shifter that has the interlock disengage button, usually done with a key, check shift interlock in the owners manual.

Starts but does not keep running

Sounds like the immobilizer. Does the key light in the dash stay on when you turn it over?

Immobilizer is the code that the key has (it's actually a radio frequency identification or RFID chip). If the key code doesn't match the car code, the car will turn over but won't stay running.

If this is the problem, you'll need to take the car to a dealer to get the key recoded.

2003 VW Jetta TDI Check Engine Light Issue

Try disconnecting the battery (unhook on of the terminals) wait for like 15 mins, hook the terminal once again and start the car. I also own a 2003 Jetta and once my engine light would come on after 2 mins of driving. Disconnecting the battery is like resetting the computer and hopefully the sensor.

Service Alarm Reset:

1. Push AND Hold the odometer (trip/mileage) button WHILST you turn on your ignition lights. DO NOT TURN ON THE ENGINE - turn the key two or three clicks in the ignition and that should do it.
2. Whilst pushing and holding the odometer button, turn the other button (the clock button on the left) in a clockwise direction. This should reset the service indicator.
3. Turn off the ignition.
