Question about 2004 Honda VT 125 Shadow

2 Answers

Why is my Honda 125 VT Shadow making a fast clicking noise when riding?. There is no sound at idle, changed oil recently, Garage put on a new sprocket and chain few weeks back.

Checked Oil, All Good. Nothing seems loose. Brakes are fine, Leaned into handlebars makes no difference. It is fast even when in low speed, so I don't think its the chain. Its a low pitch, and also doesn't stop if I pull clutch in and slow it right down

Are the valves adjustable? You can get a tapping noise if the valves need to be adjusted. You can also get a noise if a rod bearing is going.

By tick over I am assuming you mean when you engage the starter to start the bike.
This sounds like your starter sprag clutch is slipping.
The starter clutch is located behind the flywheel on the left side of the motor.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Honda VT 750 Shadow Aero-2004.

the bike is equipped with a low oil pressure cut off sensor, if it detects low oil pressure it shuts the engine down, so i would say the system is working. the first thing to do is test the oil pressure if it is ok then replace the sensor if the pressure is low then most likely you will need to replace the oil pump, or engine......good luck..... by the way the sensor is next to the oil filter.

My low oil light stays on even after an oil change,as well as my ABS light and my low coolant light.

Sounds electrical (bad earth, chaffed wire, dirty fuse) but get the garage to put a oil pressure gauge on the car to make sure the oil pressure isn't low.
ABS light will mean brakes still work but not as efficiently so drive with care particularly in the wet.

My 2000 harley vywin 88 gets fast idle only after riding how do i fix

I don't think there is a fix. My 2000 wide glide has done that since it was new. If yours is like mine it is worse on the hottest days.

You can try lowering the idle speed but then it will be almost too low when cold. You will have to leave the choke pulled out a bit until the engine is thoroughly warmed.

Warning, with a low idle speed it might spit through the carburetor when you are going slow around a corner with the engine at low RPM, then when you open the throttle it could spit through the carb and quit running. Which means you will be at risk of tipping over if you are not quick to pull in the clutch and coast till you can restart the engine. It happened to me several times.

In a turn you will be leaned over. If the engine quits suddenly you don't have power to push you around the curve and the natural thing is to tip over even farther. Not good.

It's a good motor. How do change the speeds? If you have it on a dimmer switch, that's your problem.

The governor should move back and forth as the speed control goes from speeds 1 through 10. It's purpose is to push on the control plate in order to obtain the different motor speeds.

Losing power, tapping noise in valve cover. could it be the rocker arm and the cam?

could be bad lifters or loose rocker arms, bad oil pump or low on oil, possible bad cam (but not likely)
first thing i would do is check your oil real low oil will cause this
if oil is fine check for oil pressure if oil pressure is low assume bad oil pump
if oil prssure looks good look for bad lifters or loose rocker arms

My ABS light is shining on dashboard, what can this mean? My break fluid level is good. Also my breaks are working fine.

There are a few sensors and components which feed into a computer.Even though your brakes seem fine, there is something wrong.ABS takes sensor inputs from the wheel speed, sends them to a computer, compares them to how hard you want to brake, and applies/releases the brakes as fast as possible to prevent skidding. You normally cannot feel it.So even though you can stop, something is giving a bad signal somewhere. The computer is usually not the problem though. The sensors and brakes are under the more extreme usage conditions.Greg

Handlebars loose

Construct shims from aluminum (soda / cola) cans with scissors. Be careful not to cut yourself, sheared aluminum is very sharp. After you have cut a wide strip of aluminum, wrap it around the handlebar and put it between the handlebar and the clamps. This will increase the diameter of the handlebar and allow your clips to exert more pressure on the handlebars making them tighter. Try not to leave any aluminum exposed after fixing it; it's sharp.
