With your piston @ TDC (top dead centre)(check the timing marks) all of your cam lobes should be pointing as far away from the valves (or rockers) as possible. Alternatively, the cam lobes can all be very close to opening the valves. This is called "rocking." Once you have set it up like this, you should turn the crank in the direction of rotation to check that none of the valves touch the piston. Keep turning the crank to check the valve are opening and closing at the right times, ie "****, squeeze, bang, blow"

only reason would be your running too lean. which causes more heat, which causes pre-gnition and pinging. Also if timing is off you create more pressure which in turn causes more heat

Take off seat, and tank.
Drain coolant, remove exhaust, remove coil, and ground wire from head.
Remove triangle head stays, and spark plug.
Remove right side power valve cover, and clip and spacer for the power valve arm.
Remove four cylinder nuts.
(If you remove the lower radiator hose that goes between the left and right radiator, you can get the cylinder off without removing the head.)
Use a soft blow, or dead blow hammer to free up the cylinder (Piece of wood)
Use kick starter to get piston low, and carefully remove cylinder upward.
Put a rag around connecting rod, and remove piston pin clip on one side. (So the clip doesn't fall into engine) Then push the pin out and remove the piston.
Note, you will have a mark on the left side of the cylinder of "A" or "B" for a stock piston, but Wiseco's don't use this.
Use caution when putting on the new ring, and getting the cylinder onto it as not to twist the cylinder because it will "catch" the end of the ring and do damage.

the cylinder will slide off the top of the piston, then you can replace the rings and slide the cylinder back down over the top of the piston. The bottom edge of the cylinder sleeve should have a small chamfer in it to aid in getting the rings into the cylinder.

could have too much oil in it. Check oil level. If this is a reaccurring problem , suspect fuel leaking from carb. into oil.
