SOURCE: Everytime i attempted to start it there is a

if he engine is not turning over but there is a clicking, that is a flat battery, the noise is the solenoid going mad, stop doing it and charge up the battery or you'll burn it out. if the battery is good (do the lights dim when you put the brake on? quick test) then you may have bigger problems, maybe tthe starter motor. the clicking could also be a relay, a small plastic box.

SOURCE: when i try to start it it makes a clicking noise

that clicking sound is normal, its the starter solenoid... not sure if your bike wont start, but if thats the case try charging up your battery, it might be that it just doesnt have enough juice to spin the starter motor

Lincoln making a clicking noise and won't start.

Your starter has what is known as a bendix drive. Upon start the drive actuates and pushes and holds the starter drive gear engaged with the flywheel. The drive must be bad and is not locking in engagement, but bouncing in and out causing the noise.

Bike won't start, new Harley battery, and starter bike 2006 FLHX Street Glide, all I get is a clicking noise from solenoid under seat

I'm not too familiar with the later model bikes but if I were getting a clicking noise under the seat and the bike was not starting, I'd investigate the source of the noise. It's possible that it is a starter relay that engages the solenoid that is an integral part of the starter. Look at the starter from the right hand side of your bike. You'll see a single small wire that connects to the end of the starter just above the end plate of the solenoid. Disconnect this wire and connect a test light or volt meter to the wire. Turn on your ignition switch and press the start button. You should hear the click under the seat and see voltage at the end of that wire. If not, replace the relay, a plastic cube about an inch in dimension.

Good Luck

My sportster will not start. it only makes a clicking noise when i press the sart button. the clickin sound is coming from under the seat next to the fuses. Please help

It sounds like the starter relay is making the noise. Here's check you can make. Look at the starter from the right side of the bike. there is a five sided plate on the end of the starter. Just above the plate, there's a singe wire connecting to the starter. Unplug this wire and connect a test light or volt meter to the wire. Turn the switch on and press the starter button. If the light lights up or the volt meter shows battery voltage on this wire, the problem is the starter. If no voltage is show or the light does not light up, the starter relay is bad.

The starter relay is a one inch cube looking device. Take the seat off and look for it under there. They used to be on the backside of the oil tank. Feel of it when you depress the start button. If this is what is clicking and you don't have voltage at the wire on the starter, the relay is bad. This is a common problem.

However, if you get voltage on the wire at the starter, your starter solenoid is bad and will require the replacement of the starter.

Good Luck

Is the clicking noise coming from the starter? If it is I would say your bendix is shot and needs to be rebuilt.

Honda Deauville will not start.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The click is significant. It indicates that the starting relay is engaging but for some reason, the starter motor is not cranking. This could either be a faulty starter relay (particularly the contacts) or a faulty starter motor (specifically, the carbon brushes). To determine which:
  • with the side covers off, expose the starter relay particularly the 2 large terminals;
  • have somebody start the bike normally using the key and button start switch;
  • determine if indeed the clicking is coming from the starter relay;
  • while the start button is still pressed, jump the 2 big terminals;
  • if the engine cranks, then the internal contacts of the starter relay are corroded or burned;
  • if the engine will not crank, then the starter motor is faulty or it can not turn the engine..
A few additional ideas:
  • externally charge the battery;
  • drain the tank and carbs of stale fuel;
  • refill with fresh fuel;
  • remove the plugs, center stand the bike, engage 1st gear, rotate rear wheel to exercise engine.
  • Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

I hate to tell you this, but it is probably the timer. The good news is that it is easy to replace and you don't have to have a tech to do it.
