What is the spark plug gap why is 1 of my exhust pipe hot and the other is not

Your #1 cylinder ( the front cylinder) is not firing. It could be that the spark plug is fouled or improperly gapped, or the carburetor is not delivering gas to the cylinder. pull both spark plugs Clean the plugs and gap them. The gap should be about 0.035 In. (thirty five thousandths). Reconnect the wires to the spark plugs. Lay the spark plugs against the outside of the cylinders with the metal part of the spark plug body touching the cylinder (creating the ground part of the circuit). push the starter and look for spark at both spark plugs. If you have spark at both plugs, put them back in and start the bike and check the exhaust pipes to see if they are both hot. If one is still cold, the carburetor for that cylinder is not delivering gas. Could be a kinked or clogged fuel line, disconnect the fuel line from that carburetor and see if gasoline flows out. If gas flows out, the carburetor needs to be tuned or removed and cleaned.

The fuel supply valve is a vacuum operated valve under the left side of the fuel tank and it delivers fuel to the carburetor when the handle is turned so it is pointing up in the vertical position (ON) and vacuum is supplied to it from the carburetor. The fuel supply is turned OFF when the handle is in the horizontal position and when no vacuum is supplied to the valve from the carburetor. There is a RESERVE fuel supply and it is operational when the handle is turned to point down. IT SHOULD BE TURNED OFF when the engine is not running because if it is not it is possible for fuel to drain into the engine, dilute the engine oil and
cause engine damage.

When I try to start I get fire in carburetor but wont run seems like it wants to start but wont last owner left out in rain dumped old gas put new cleaned carb bowl still does same thing


I think your timing needs to be adjusted. The bike seems to be firing early. Since the bike sat out, the timing belt may have gotten stiff with age, wearing the belt's tooth ridges, even knocking one off. Another problem you probably have is varnish in the fuel jet orifices, or in the float chamber, where the varnish can gunk up the float's spindle, the little rod the float pivots on, and the float may be stuck, delivering too much fuel to the carburetor. Try some sort of solvent made for the job of cleaning out the varnish, such as Chemtool 16 or Sea Foam or similar. Put a couple of ounces in the gas, and spray or brush some into the carburetor, let it work for a few hours, then turn the engine. It will run rough at first but should smooth out. If it doesn't then repeat the cleaning process. If that doesn't work, you may have a problem with deteriorating rubber O-rings and other rubber parts due to the effect of ethanol. That means taking the fuel system apart and overhauling it. Check out puregas.com for stations that sell non-ethanol gas. The ethanol problem is for older bikes especially.

Air intake problem or carburater problem?


Check there are no air leaks around where the air intake rubbers are at your carburetor. It sounds like your bike is running too lean or weak which means your air/fuel mixture is running on too much air and not enough fuel. This would explain it running smoothly when you put the choke on as the choke "chokes" the majority of the air from the carburetor and allows more fuel to flow through the carburetor creating a richer mixture. There will be a mixture screw somewhere on the carburetor which will allow you to either richen (more fuel and less air) or weaken (more air and less fuel) by turning the screw either in or out. Only adjust this by a small amount (about a quarter turn at most) at a time and try the bike to see how it rides each time. After adjusting the screw each time let the engine idle for about 30 seconds or so to let it settle to the new mixture setting before riding. There will be another screw on the carburetor which is your "idle" or "tick over"speed adjustment screw which adjusts how high your engine revs while the engine is "ticking over". Turn it in to increase idling speed and out to lower the idling speed. This will probably need adjusting as you change the fuel/air mixture. I hope this helps you and good luck :o)

Hi I have a 110 pit bike it starts first kick but fuel dribbles out from the over flow pipe at the bottom of the engine also plug gets black after every ride any ideas


Hi tim laura...
You have some trash/debris in your carburetor inlet valve.
It is not allowing the needle to make a complete seal and this is allowing the carburetor to over fill and flow out of the over flow pipe.
Clean your carburetor and check your tank for debris/trash also to stop this from happening again.
You may even put a filter in the line from the fuel tank on the bike to the carburetor.
Once you have your carburetor cleaned that should solve your overflow problem.

Chainsaw wont fire


Is the spark plug wet (inside after trying to start it)? If dry, the carburetor isn't delivering fuel into the engine. Check the muffler to see if it is plugged. Is the carburetor firmly attached to the engine? Fuel and spark at the right time makes it go! Try squirting a little fuel into the carburetor throat. Might be loose screws on carburetor assembly.
