I want to remove the hd trim on the battery cover

sounds like the chain is way to tight readjust clutch and tensioner and check for noise. you may even wanna run a charge test to see if you have stator problems or a loose compensator nut

How many miles do you have? You probably need to have your oil pump alligned. They get out of wack and cause over oiling. I believe it caused by not being able to return oil efficiently. An evo tappet block alignment tool is now used to align the TC internal oil pump.

There are two bolts to the left of the battery cover one holds the bracket the other lowers the battery

If the battery is a 20 Amp Hour battery then the golden rule is to charge at 10% of the total, which would be 2 Amps. A 25 A/h would be 2.5Amps etc.
You may be able, as I can on my 1965 XLCH, clip on the feed terminal of the starter solenoide and a foot peg or exhaust pipe. The starter terminal being possitive and the foot peg/exhaust negative.
Charge that battery and ride safe.
REMOVAL
Do not ever touch the quartz bulb with your fingers as fingerprints will etch the glass and cause the bulb to fail prematurely.
FXD, FXDL, FXDX Models
Loosen the trim ring clamp screw and nut, remove the trim ring, pull the connector block from the bulb prongs, remove the rubber boot from the back of the headlamp assembly, squeeze the wire retaining clip ends to unhook and release them from the from notches in the headlamp assembly, pivot the wire retaining clip away from the bulb aqnd then remove the bulb from the headlamp assembly.
FXDWG, FXDXT Models
Loosen the trim ring clamp screw and remove the trim ring, pull the wiring connector from the bulb prongs, remove the rubber boot from the back of the headlamp assembly, squeeze the wire retaining clip ends to unhook and release them from the notches in the headlamp assembly, pivot the wire retaining clip away from the bulb and remove the bulb from the headlamp assembly.
INSTALLATION
Install a new bulb and assemble the headlamp components in the reverse of the removal process. Align the headlight when it is fully installed. When reassembling the headlamp ensure that the slots and tabs in the headlamp, adapter ring, and trim ring are aligned.
