Which o-ring? this would depend on where it is located. It might be as easy as removing the shifter and sliding the ring on the shaft. Or if it's pressed in you might have to remove the transmission casing.

I have a 450 Honda Foreman ES that won't shift down from 2 to neutral it will shift up but won't go down below 2 Have replaced the motor and the angle sensor with no change. Any suggestions

Could be the shifter solenoid. but most likely it's in the section where the shifter cable goes into. There is also 2 sensors on the top of it one forward and one reverse . I do believe that unit has a manual post coming out of the lower side of the engine on the left side when sitting on it. Put a socket on it and see if the bike will shift manually. If not then it's either the section with the 2 sensors on it or the mechanism inteernally itself.

I have a Honda Foreman manual shift that wont shift

Hey Dave,
Will it shift if someone is pushing the ATV? Atv and motorcycle transmissions rarely shift more than one gear, in one direction, unless they are moving... the transmission gears have "dogs" that are slightly undercut, designed to keep them in gear, they are numerous on each gear and rarely "line up" to allow the transmission to shift without movement.
If it will not shift (up or down) when you are pushing it, have you possible bent the shift shaft (the shaft the shifter is bolted onto)?? If not. then its time to get a qualified professional to open the side case and take a look. It should be obvious, he may have to remove the clutch assy to see.

Shift shaft replace

Yes. Sad but true. On most late model Honda four stroke singles, the shift shaft turns the shift drum directly, from within the engine cases.

2005 honda foreman 400 Shifting problem

hello
it seems that the control motor may be sticking to lock, and/or the angle sensor is bad or causeing this. something to check is the control motor shaft lock. on the left side of the atv there is an electric motor that is bolted to the front crankcase. take the two bolts that hold it on, off. and remove the motor. take a short screwdriver, and you should be able to turn this shaft freely either way. if you cannot nudge it a little the one way it may be stuck and see if this frees it up. if this was stuck and gets freed up. this may just be a temporary lock, but if it continues the angle sensor may need to be replaced.
if the motor shaft was not locked up then the angle sensor may still be to blame. thank you.
