I have a Sears Eager 1 self propelled mower.. the Carb float was not shutting off the fuel gas was running into the engine and out the carb. I took the Carb apart. the needle and seat looked fine so I...

If there is freedom of movement for the needle, then look towards the float. Does the float have any fuel in it? If so, it will not rise properly to move the needle to shut off flow to the carb which will cause the flooding you are observing. If no fluid in float, you mentioned that you raised the float a little, should have gone the other way. By lowering the float it will seat the needle at a lower level in the bowl. Ensure that the needle seat is properly installed. If this does not solve the problem, purchase a new float.

Note: The model number of the mower is not helpful here. What is required is a model number and brand for the motor.

Hi ive a rm 250 and its constontly leaking petrol from the over flow on the carb wen the petrol is turned on its happing wen the bike is running and turned off please help??

The float in carb is stuck open. Remove the float bowl at the bottom of the carb dump out the fuel and trash in the bowl then use spray carb cleaner on the float needle area while gently lifting and releasing the float. Put it back together and try it. If the problem continues, remove the float and shake it. Anything inside the float? A crack in a seam on the float can let fuel/water into the float. This kills the ability of the float to shut off the fuel feed to the carb. Consider installing an in-line fuel filter to prevent future problems.

Carb float on a 1988 hondahurricane

With the float installed turn the carb upside down so the float is pointing up adjust the tab until you see the underside of the float is parrellel to the carberator's metal flat body section. This setting will provide the proper fuel level in the carb providing the proper maintained level of fuel for performance around tight turns as well as idling.

Kawasaki EL250 carburettor

Turn off the gas and remove the float bowl. Remove the fuel line. Remove the float pin and float with needle valve. Do not bend the tang that the float needle sits on. Spray carb cleaner into the seat where the needle valve came from to clear out any trash in the valve casing. Spray the float bowl and interior of the carb. Remount the needle and float back in place and put the float bowl back on. Install an in-line fuel filter. The diagram below shows a 1994 carb Yours will be the same or close to it.

A “very helpful” rating on this answer? Thanks!

I need to reset the float levels in my carbys to stop the overflow on my 1974 Z1A Kawasaki

You describe a problem with either the float or the float-needle and seat. If the needle is not seating then the gas flows past it. If the float has a pin-hole leak, then it will fill with gas and sink.
On some bikes you can remove the carb bowl without removing the carbs. If so, slide the hinge pin holding the float to one side and remove. The float will drop straight down. Catch the needle since it is now loose. Unscrew the needle seat with a socket.
Clean all metal parts in carburator not get carb cleaner on any rubber part. Shake the float and listen for gas inside or see if it floats in water.
Test the needle seal in the seat by blowing gently thru seat. Needle must seat completly with very little pressure holding the needle in the seat.
Re-assemble with new bowl gasket if damaged. A carb rebuild kit ($35) might be available for 1973 carb and contains all new parts instead of cleaning. Kit might even contain new float and float adjust guide.
Avoid adjusting float level if re-using the old float. If using new float, temporarily install old and measure distance to carb body. Install new and match this measuremnt. Bend tang to adjust.

Good luck,

2nd cylinder not getting hot and leaking fuel from it

Assuming the carbs were rebuilt properly, this sounds to me like a carb float being stuck open. Turn off the gas and drain the offending carb. Next, turn the gas back on and sharply tap the float bowl with the plastic handle of a screwdriver as the fuel bowl refills. The goal here is to vibrate the float to free it up. If doing this process a couple of times does not free the float I would remove the carb and look at the float chamber fo any problems such as stuck float, float level not set correctly, and the correct installation of the main jet.
Use an air hose to dry out the cylinder then install a new spark plug AFTER you make sure that the cylinder is getting spark. Be sure to balance and sync the carbs when finished.
Please rate this solution.
