Weak fire on pocket bike

Hi, I do a lot with these bikes, I think if you are getting a weak spark there is a couple things to check. First, do you understand how it builds the power to create the spark? The magnet in the flywheel has to be very close to the magnito or coil, if the gap is too much it will cause a weak spark, if the magnet is weak, weak spark, if the coil is shorting internally, weak spark. If the plug wire is damaged, weak spark. I hope this helps you.

How do I fix my 49cc 2 stroke pocket quad it has

If you have replaced the spark plug then the possibilities are the ignition coil is weak or the starter mechanism is faulty.

Have a Husq 288 xp lite that won't start, pulled spark plug and replaced, before screwing back in I pulled starting cord to see if I have a sperk, no spark, also tried old plug, same did I check...

The 288XP has a two piece ignition system, an igniter box next to the flywheel and a coil on top of the crankcase next to the carb, there is a red leed that connects the two, make sure this wire is a good tight fit on the igniter box, they are prone to comeing loose, it is unlikley to be the coil at fault, it is nearly always the igniter box next to the flywheel, the air gap here between the magnets and the igniter core should be 0.3mm, the part no. for the igniter is 501812702, if you need the coil this is part no. 501812801, check the top cover has not cut the ht leed, it should be pushed into the recess in the carb wall to stop this happening.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, test for the presence / absence of below described voltages using an analog / needle type voltmeter when starting the bike:
  • pulsating low AC voltage coming from the pickup coil;
  • pulsating voltage feeding the ignition coil.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

I have a 47cc pocket rocket and there is no spark at all.

first, if all connections are good, try replacing the spark plug, if still no good, check if coil gap to rotor is .020". if the is good, you will need to replace the ignition coil.

Headlight 1972 yamaha 250 yz

You can add a headlight if the type of ignition system on your particular model is the type that will let you. Several different systems were used back then. The proper system will need a lighting coil installed onto the plate underneath the flywheel. The flywheel must be pulled off. You will see a coil there already for the spark. An unused set of threaded screw holes is present, (the same plate was used on the bikes that had a headlight). Just add the coil and now you have power for a headlight.
