2000 S-type Fail Safe Engine mode is intermittent.

Bought a used 2000-type and 72 hours later, the engine quit while on the Interstate at 70 mph..scary! Had no throttle response. Was reading Fail Safe Engine Mode. Put car on a computer and got trouble code P1576. This is a problem with the throttle body sensor. So tried cleaning the the butterfly thing (well my husband did) with some cleaner fluid for throttle body sensors. Now have a new trouble code P0102. This is a oxygen sensor problem I guess. I'm really frustrated. Owned the vehicle for 3 weeks and it's been unreliable for 2 1/2 of those weeks. I've heard the S-type is a money pit....guess it's true. Arrgh!

Change the throttle body posistion sensor and change the plugs if the throttle body was dirty the plugs can now be fouled out causing the problem the 02 sensor may be clogged as well from the cleaning try thid first this should work if not let me know ill tell you what else you can do hope this solves your problem.

I was driving home on the interstate at 70 miles an hour in 5th gear and my car started jerking. why????

The engine has developed a misfire, most likely. Did the check engine light come on or start flashing? If so, find out what codes has set to determine which cylinder is misfiring and then proceed with the repair.

Fail safe engine mode mean in a 2000 jaguar s type?

Hi Walter, the fail safe mode is for getting you home when something goes wrong and you need to move the vehicle a short distance. If it is engaged you should take the vehicle for a scan and find out what is wrong. Regards John

What does Failsafe Engine Mode mean? my manual was stolen

Hello! Fail safe mode is when the vehicle's computer detects a serious problem an allows you to "limp" off the road or highway safely.

Fail safe mode on a Jaguar is mainly caused by a dirty and gummed up throttle body. The throttle body on your auto has a protective coating, so you can not use just any cleaner. It requires a throttle body cleaner that states "safe to use with a protective coating". The butterfly valve in the throttle body will actually "stick out". This causes fail safe mode to kick in reducing the amount of power your engine can produce.

Also check the plugs on your ECM (computer) and make sure they are all seated properly.

My 2000 Jag S type also keeps saying failsafe mode?

fail safe mode is something the vehicle computor will go into when there is a problem with the vehicle it allows u to get off the highway or road safely you need to take vehicle to repair shop or your dealer which ever u prefer Failsafe engine mode on a 2000 jaguar s type is caused by a stopped up throttle body. Jaguar says not to clean the throttle body since it has a protective coating to help keep deposits from accumulating. You can clean the throttle body as long as you use ONLY throttle body cleaner that states it is safe to use with a protective coating. The butterfly valve in the throttle body will actually stick not allowing air to flow into the manifold causing failsafe engine mode to kick in reducing the amount of power your engine will produce. To solve the issue just clean out your throttle body, it will cost you around $5 dollars and take 1 hour of your time.
