Lifter tick after a fast ride on freeway

My 2002 Honda Shadow Sabre sometimes gets a lifter tick after a hard ride on the freeway doing 70-80mph. Usually on hot days. Sometimes it goes away and soemtimes it hangs around for a few days. I change the oil regularly at the local Honda shop (the guys are rip off's) It has done it since I bought it with 8K miles. I have 31K miles and its getting to hang around longer.

Have the valves been adjusted? Is the cam chain tight? Many things can give you a tick. Is the exhaust leaking?

Is collapsed lifter a common jeep problem?

These engine are notoriously quite reliable. Try this: Change oil and replace one of the new quarts with a quart of Rislone or Marvel Mystery Oil. Drive the car normally for a couple days and change the oil again installing the recommended oil. If it is a sticking lifter this may solve the problem. If it is a wornout lifter or cam lobe you have bigger problems.

2002 Honda Shadow ACE 750 has low oil and a metallic knock. It smoked a little, now it won't stay running. Any help is appreciated.

The knock is probably coming from the connecting rods because there is so little oil to keep them lubricated! "...smoked a little..." is most likely due to valve, lifter and tappet damage because of NO LUBRICATION!!!

You are trying to ride this thing?!?

From what you are saying you are most likely going to have rebuild the motor! Get the bike to a shop NOW!

Eng has ticking-ligt taping coming from top part of engine sound kinda like the old chevy v8 lifter valve tick but engine still runs great has only 15k miles on it. What could be my problem?

you need to check your valve clearance first if you hear the ticking in the cylinder heads. Also whhile you cot the covers off check the tension on the cam chains honda v4s' had some trouble with cam chain tensioners(theres an easy fix for that)
Valve clearance shown in manusl or on right hand side of bike at the bottom of the frame.Email me if u have more q's at spencervolk@verizon.net

02 intrepid ticking

Most dodge motors have adjusters on the rockers for taking up slack in the valve-train. when these get worn or plugged by dirt they turn the valves from soft hydraulic to hard ticking due to a space between the lifter and the valve. If this is an overhead cam with roller lifters then these have become worn or fouled.
