Before you overhaul the engine to check the gear shifting drum and the gear forks, remove the right hand engine cover and check the clutch plates and the springs for optimal operation .If everything is ok then you continue with overhauling the engine.

Downshifting a 10 gear semi


Let the throttle off just a little bit to allow the shift lever to slide out of gear and then raise the engine rpm about two hundred rpm to match the next lower gear. If you get the rpms matched, the shift lever will slide smoothly into the next lower gear.

Every time i put it in gear it will die out.


Check your side stand switch. If the switch is faulty, the ECU will see the stand is down and when you take it out of nuetral, the engine will die.

I have a 2005 yamaha r1 .. some times when im down shifting I half to keep trying to down shift to get it to go into a gear mainly 1st sometimes other gears but not so much and same thing with up shifting...

Sidestand and neutral light problem for 2005 yamaha R1


Try checking the wiring for snags or earthing out and test the side stand unit off the bike with a conductivity meter ..also try an oil change .
