2001 Road King. Runs fine for three or four miles. Then it shuts down. It turns over fine but won't fire.I checked for a spark and there is none. All instument lights head lights work fine but no spark. After five or ten min. It will start and go another mile or two and the same thing happens again. I tried replacing the coil but the same thing happened again.

The same thing just happen to me and a friend of mine on our 2001 Road Kings. I am 95% sure your problem is the crank position sensor. We replace ours and the bikes are back to their glory.

My partner in crime had the same problem with his 2002 Ultra, like to have drove the both of us nuts. His problem was a relay, there was a posted recall, Harley covered the repair.

Failing ignition module will cause this. Gets hot and shuts down. Check this at home by using a hair dryer. Heat up the module with dryer and start bike. If it won't start or shuts down sooner than normal, it's the module. If you have to replace it, get a Screamin Eagle or aftermarket adjustable module. They are much better and you can adjust rev limiter, timing, etc.

If your system is EFI. I would check my system relay> When this relay goes bad it will allow the motor to turn over but it will not fire. Another possible problem would be the crank possition sensor. When this sensor goes out it produces the same symtoms.

2001 road king efi as im driveing down the road at a constant speed it spits and sputters but if i give it more throttle it runs fine.

This could be a number of things. First off you need to display DTCs if there are any. Some things will not set codes but always start diagnosis by displaying any codes if there are any. This sounds like a fueling problem. Check your air filter first and then pull and check the plugs to see if you are running rich or lean as either could be the problem and further diagnosis will be greatly assisted by knowing if it is one or the other.

My 2000 road king speedometer and odmeter have both stopped working??well they work every now and then???? whats up???

My 2001 road king just did the same thing. The speedo would bounce up and down then quit altogether. Turns out the battery cables were loose. This caused the voltage to the speedo to be hit and miss. I tightened mine and it works great. The odometer had power but registered no miles. Pull the seat and check the cables. Got this fix from a local friend who owns a bike repair shop.

I have a 95 Road King that isn't running right, it

Backfiring out of the exhaust is usually an ignition problem. Unburned fuel is getting into the exhaust system because it's not being ignited in the cylinder. When the engine fires on that cylinder again, it ignites the raw fuel in the exhaust causing the pop that people call a backfire. I'd investigate the ignition system. Connect a timing light to each of the spark plug wires if it has a single fire ignition or either of them if the ignition system is the stock dual fire. Start the engine and watch the timing light to tell if the engine is missing as the light will miss a flash.

Good Luck
Steve

Harley Road King motor turned off

after checking the kill switch on the handle bars and the key. It could be a simple wire or even a computter problem check to see if you have spark if it even turns over, without knowing if it fuel injected or carb its hard to give an exact find or fix. If your not formiluar with the road kings working I would suggest you take it to a harley mech.

06 Road King Classice shuts off when in 4th gear beloe 50mph

It's normal for the check engine light to take from 0 to a couple seconds to turn off. The computer runs a system check. Put an oil pressure gauge on the bike and watch it closely. If your pressure drops when the bike loses power, the engine may be locking up from lack of oil. Another possibility is your lean-angle cut-off switch is defective. The switch cuts power to the bike in case you lay it down. Harley also has had problems with their fuel injection system losing power for no apparent reason.
