I had the same problem. My local dealer could not figure it out. I finally figured it out. Try adjusting the tension on the cable that releases compression when you depress the front brake lever while starting. Don't over adjust, as it will create the same problem. Good luck!

You have a one way bearing that's going bad in the motor it allows the starter to turn only one direction

Wont start just clicks put a new relay on it and new battery took the starter off brushes look good clean all connection i could find it is a 2000 1500 intruder suzuki need help thanks

Take a voltmeter and check the armature. You should have continuity between every other contact that the brushes hit. You should not have continuity between adjacent contacts. If the armature is shorted you have found the problem.

Bike wont start. just clicks. battery is ok. need help?

I assume the engine is not seized and the battery is charged and good. Push the starter button, if you hear a click from the solenoid the button is good. Now , jump the two cable posts on the starter solenoid. If the starter works you have a bad solenoid. If you push the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works, you need new starter brushes. If anything else in the starter is keeping it from working you need a new starter , the starter parts are not available from the manufacturer.

Bike won't start, '99 1500 Intruder; changed the battery but it won't turn over, just whirs - help please

There appears to be a problem with the starter .. New battery, 'whir' sound when you press the start button ... I suspect the gear is not engaging. Remove the starter if you can ... Otherwise, this might be a job for the shop.

Front decompression cable missing

Replace the battery if it has any age on it. Sometimes batteries can test out good but can still not have enough juice to do the job. I went through a bunch of parts and even rebuilt the starter and what fixed it was a new battery. Don't buy cheap batteries either, this is another problem. Just pay the extra and buy a good battery from a motorcycle shop.

2001 suzuki 1500 intruder won't start. replaced battery and starter. happened once in a while at first now can't get to start at all

Could be a bad starter push button, poor connection in wiring, bad safety switch.Need to track down with voltmeter if you can.
A good dealer may offer some help if you buy the parts needed from them.
