Remove the seat. THEN remove the electrical caddy cover THEN purge the fuel supply line of high pressure gasoline by removing the fuel pump fuse, starting the engine and letting it run until it quits and then turning it over for another few seconds and then disconnect the fuel line from the tank. Then disconnect the negative battery cable and then reinstall the fuel pump fuse. THEN remove the instrument panel from the fuel tank and disconnect the wiring connector and the fuel gauge connector under the tank THEN remove the fuel from the fuel tank. Then cut off the fuel crossover line hose on one side of the tank and pull the 5/16 inch hose from the fuel pipe there and plug it and install a cap over the pipe. THEN disconnect the vent line from the tank. THEN remove the front mounting bolt and the rear mounting bolt and remove the tank.

SOURCE: removing harley davidson ultra classic gas tank

Drain the fuel either by siphening or removing the cross over tube at the front of the tank and letting it drain that way or just block off those cross over lines and leave the fule in the tank for removal.

0) remove seat
1) drain fuel
2) undo cross over line (bottom front of gas tank.
3) shut off pet **** and remove fuel line from pet ****.
4)there should only be 2 bolts holding the tank on, one at the top front of the tank and one at the back of the tank.

All in all a pretty easy (but possibloy messy) job.

How do i remove the fuel supply lines coming off my gas tank, are these quick connect fittings? if so how do i take apart, any special tools required? it's an 01 h.d. ultra classic fuel injected model.

You may find these are factory hose fittings, they are put on with a special tool, and usualy can only be used once. Im not to sure how they come apart, but will have to be cut off somehow, and then replaced with standard hose clamps of the worm drive type.
