What type of GB? Exact year/engine of your 307?
On most newer vehicles, you can't check GB oil level cause there's only the drain bolt. You must check in service/user manual how much oil is needed for GB (for manual GB it should be 2 ltrs).

SOURCE: how do I check the gearbox oil level on a 2.1

This is a sealed Gear box and needs to be done by a proffessional , but just to give you an idea.
You need to start the car put in reverse for couple of minutes , thenput into drive for couple of minutes , back to park. Lift the car and again start the car (IN PARK) , then open the Transmission drain plug while running (could be a little messy for you) , when you open the plug if a little oil comes out , then oil i good , if not then you need to top the oil till it starts dripping oil out of the plug. As these models would take in what it needs and not more. After that put the plug back in its place and make sure that there are no leeks. Please remember that this has to be done before oil tempereture goes up , so you want to do while car is cold or other wise you have to stop and do again when cold

SOURCE: auto gearbox

if it has a dip stick under the bonnet you need to have the engine running with the box in neutral then dip the oil
if the engine is warm then it should read around the top mark, if the engine us cold then it should rear around the lower mark
if there is no dip stick then there is no way of checking the level and you will need to drain the box and re fill with the correct ammount through the gearbox breather on the top

Would like to know where the top up plug for my gear oil is and if there is a dip stick manual proton savvy bt 2006

Manual Transmissions don't have dip sticks.

2. Manual gearboxes have a drain and filler plug. The filler plug is usually found in an accessible position on one side of the gearbox which has to be accessed from under the vehicle.

To top up the gearbox the car has to be perfectly level so if you need to add oil to the gearbox you ideally need to get the car up on a garage hoist/lift so you can both access the filler plug easily, remove it and pump in the fresh gear oil. The usual correct oil level on these gearboxes is level with the bottom section of the filler plug opening in the gearbox. However you should check with the proton service staff on the correct procedure for topping up the manual gearbox in your car.

I have bmw e38 after driving it dripps little oil motor oil level is ok

Check if its not the gearbox thats leaking oil. Rather take it in and have it checked- if you end up with low oil levels in the gearbox it will leave you out of pocket with having to do expensive repairs or replacement.

Noise going into 4th gear what could it be

The gearbox could be low on oil check the oil level depending on the modal there should be a bung on the side of the gearbox at the level the oil should be. If you can't detect oil below the bung you need to add oil. Cheers

Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) checking:
1. Requirements for check:
1.1. Vehicle standing on level surface.
1.2. Transmission must not be in fail-safe mode.
1.3. Shift lever in "P" position, parking brake applied.
1.4. Engine idling.
1.5. Air Conditioner and heater OFF.
1.6. ATF temperature must not exceed 104 Fahrenheit degree (40 Celsius degree) at start of test.
1.7. Automatic gearbox oil capacity: 2,5 liter. Only ATF with VW designation may be used. Do not use any lubricant additives.
1.8. Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF - part number: VW G 052 990 A2
1.9. An ATF level check when transmission oil temperature is too low results in overfilling, when too high results in underfilling.
2. CAUTION: Too much or too little ATF will affect the operation of the transmission. The ATF level must be checked at regular intervals.

How do I put gearbox fluid in ? Where is the level glass? I have a 1997 mitsubishi magna

Gearboxes usually have no oil dipstick / looking glass. On the side of the gearbox there's a bolt with (brass) washer. This is where the gearbox oil goes. To check the level is to stick one finger in downwards, when there's no oil at this level its usually too low.

On the bottom of the gearbox there's a similar bolt with washer to drain the old oil. The bolt can be magnetic - and can look a bit like a mushroom. Tiny particles from the gears stick on there - this is normal. Large bits of metal can be a cause for concern.

Always use the specified gearbox oil - wrong oil makes changing gears hard.

Hard to change gears in my v6 hyundia

First thing to check is oil-level in the gearbox. If far below the filler hole - refill and look for oil leaks around seals and in clutch housing.

If oil level is ok - it might need changing or when serviced recently, it might have been filled with the wrong oil.

Somewhere on the side of the gearbox there's a bolt with a seal ring. Usually this is the filler hole. Oil level check is simple, stick a finger in downwards. Should feel the oil level.

Gear boxes need the right oil viscosity and are quite sensitive - meaning changing gears gets difficult specially when cold.

My gear stick keeps jumping when in gear.

Hi sheila? this is normally caused by lack of oil in the gearbox. make sure the gearbox oil level is ok before doing any thing els. In the fron of the gearbox there should be a plastic lead which can be unscrewed to inspect the oil level. the oil level should be level with the base of the hole. If oil comes out when you unscrew the lead that's ok. If the oil level is ok then the gearbox may be worn out.

WHERE IS THE FILLER PLUG ON THE GEARBOX ON A 1998 PASSAT TDI PLEASE

Hi,

Just checking.... it is a manual gearbox?

You may need a special tool for the drain plug and a 17mm allen key for the filler (some use the special drain tool for the filler as well)

The drain plug is located under the diff housing.

The filler plug is located on the left (nearside) off the gearbox (look to the left of the hole and you can see the 17mm hex filler bung).

Check you can undo the filler bung, then drain the gearbox oil.

Refit drain bung and fill gearbox through filler/level ********* until gearbox oil is up to the level of the filler bung.

Refit, test drive, check for leaks and retest level again when cold.

Cheers,
