Question about 1978 Honda GL 1000 (K3)
This old bike has just 63K on it but she needs a good general going over beginning with sorting out the backfiring and acceleration stall.
. The engine starts well It idles well it backfires from the right exhaust only. Also the engine stalls on sharp acceleration . I realize that these could be separate issues but together they probably make sense to an expert.
Engine compression and timing have been checked by an Auto mechanic and were found ok .
Is it worthwhile to change to electronic ignition right away or would that simply add one more unknown to the mix. I just picked the old girl up on a trade and as a winter project and I would sure appreciate some help from a reputable and qualified source . Thanks
You want to start with a valve adjustment, 0.004 ths, then set the timing, then the points at the high end 0.016 ths. this will create better voltage at the coils. Then sync the carbs last.
