Question about 2002 Husqvarna TE 250

Husqvarna WXE250 Seized Motor

I am a garage mechanic and was working on a 94 WXE 250 2 Stroke. I was trying to get it to start by kicking it over. I was spraying PB Blaster into the carb for starting fluid and then all of a sudden, I couldn't kick it over anymore. Its like it's seized. The bike was not hot because it never started in the first place. Why would a penetrating lube seize a cylinder? My model wasn't listed in the Category, so I had to choose the TE250.

    Yes, I have taken the plug out. Still no luck. I am receiving a lot of comments were people aren't reading the entire question. Please read the entire thread before you comment. Don't just tell me I need a new piston. This problem is not making sense because for a piston to seize, the motor has to be hot. This bike will not even start. It makes be think its the crank or something.

The piston is now froze in place you would need to buy a whole new piston

What does the TE stand for? Won't turn at all? Pull the spark plug and try. Try backing up the motor in oposit rotation. If it frees, ck the spark plug tip to make sure its there then spay wd40 into plug hole liberally, kick over half dozen times. ck plug gap and reinstall then try kicking it over again.. Mske sure you are getting fuel to the carb.and plenty of air.

The thing was working fine i shut it off and when i went to start it ,it doesn't turn its like its seased


well is it seized , when you try to pull to start will it turn at all , is this a 2 stroke motor or a 4 stroke motor if 2 you have to put 2+2 gas oil mix in it ,if a 4 stroke motor just gas , oil is seperate tank

My kx 250 has no compression i put reg gas in and rode i think ran out of gas then tyred to jump it and it siezed up and now i try to kick it over and it gos half way and no compr


If it's a KX it's a 2-stroke and requires oil to be mixed with the gas. If you didn't have a gas oil mix, it is probably seized and maybe even damaged the crank. These bikes have excellent owners manuals that have all the info required to rebuild the motor, and 2 strokes are fairly simple. Good luck!

Remove the spark plug, put the bike in fourth or fifth gear then try a jump start but with the key turned off. If the rear wheel locks up when you jump on and release the clutch then the piston has probably seized up OR the kick start-to-clutch hub gearing is messed up. The best thing to do is to remove the left engine side cover and look at the kick start mechanism. You may need to remove the clutch assembly for a full inspection. With the clutch removed the rotor ( crankshaft flywheel ) should turn. If it will not turn then a seized piston, broken cam chain or dropped valve is likely. If the rotor does turn then the kick start mechanism is the problem. Please rate my answer. Thanks!

Ii was riding it earlier and i shut it off then when i got back on it a went to kick it and the kicker was stuck it wouldnt kick. what could it be


The most common causes for this are a ceased piston (for instance, if there was an oil failure, the bike probably wouldn't have ceased until it was turned off) or if an internal bolt has gotten into the bottom end somewhere jamming the crank or kick mechanism itself.
Try removing the cylinders first, as that is the most likely cause of the failure.
If the piston is stuck in the cylinder, you may need to put a block of wood onto the piston and gently tap it out of the cylinder to effect repairs on the bike.
If the pistons come out of the cylinders without sticking, then having the cylinders removed will let you get a look into the crank area for loose bolts etc.
Don't forget to tie off the cam chain so it doesn't fall into the crank, because that's a pain to fish back out.
If you can't see anything wrong in the crank area, you will likely have to open up the bottom end to see what has gone wrong.
I wish I could be more help, but you didn't specify which bike you have.
If it's a 2 stroke, chances are the gas/oil mix was off or it ran out of 2 stroke oil and the piston ceased.

Ease the kick start lever just past TDC (top dead center) compression. This puts the piston on the downward power stroke. Twist the throttle one time. Now kick it over. Don't twist the gas with every subsequent kick. A power valve squirts gas with each twist and can flood the engine really quick. A fresh spark plug, clean air filter and good battery will also help. Drain the carb to be sure no water has gotten into it.

Possible seal failure


Gearbox oil may be getting into the crank area. Check the oil in the crank, is it motor oil or two stroke oil? If it is motor oil then you will need to split the center case and clean/re-seal the case halves. Be sure to install new crank seals. New crank bearings? If 2 stroke oil, just put a cup of gas in the crank to thin the oil, rotate the crank a few times to mix gas and oil, then just tip the bike over to dump the mix out of the case. If the bike has an oil pump, see if you can lessen the stroke of the pump. If mixing 2 stroke oil in the gas tank, Be sure to use only 2 stroke engine oil at 32 to 1 ratio. That equals 4 ounces of oil to a gallon of gas.

Clicking on up stroke of kick starter, wont start.


When an engine seizes you really have done great harm to it. My advice is to pull the motor and split the cases to inspect crank, and other parts. Invest in new cylinder & piston (w\rings) at the very least. It is more likely that you are going to need some new bearings and machine work. Sorry for the bad news...but that is exactly what seizing an engine is, bad news.

Engine seized?


First thing to do is make sure it's the kick starter that has seized and not the engine. Take the cover off the end of the crankcase and try to turn the crankshaft. Apparently these engines were notorious for doing bottom ends. Start pulling it down and see what you find..

When I try to start my honda CR 250 the kick start leveler will not go down, it is lick it is frozen or blocked.


I had the same problem, and i was that the shaft that the kick start was attached to had sezied on to the idler gear in side the engine. all i did was drain the oil, remove the cover and replace the shaft and idler gear.
