What wires are hooked up to left & right posts going to & from starter rely on 1987 f250 4wd straight six

Im having trouble starting my 87 f250 it's melting off one of the positive posts off the realy. Okay I put a new relay ,.& battery in my truck it wasn't charging my batery so I had to jump over my starter solenoid with wrench . Im wondering if I didn't wire it right , cause now im not getting anything when I try to start it with my key , and wont start when I wrench start , Did I possibly wire it wrong . I have the battery pos on one side, the single wire on sm post and pos going to starter on other big post plus three other sm wires on that post each sm wire tees off to power other components im thinking that one of the sm wires should be. On the other post so I have power to my ignition . Can someone show me a diagram on how to wire a 4 post starter relay on a 1987 f250 3/4 4wd pickup truck ? Thank you

You don't need a diagram. The batt Pos goes to one side and that is also the power side for various other tasks. The second heavy stud goes to the starter. You just have the smaller supply cables on the wrong stud.

I have an 87 f350 with a 460 motor i want to swap the cab from a 1993 f150 with an inline six cyl how do i wire the coil, and starter up ??

your going to run into more hurdles than just the starter and coil.however the starter you can wire the cellinoid to the ignition and just run a power lead to your battery. the coil you can easily run to a standalone ignition system such as an msd or mallory setup. you may want to look into a painless wireing harness, you can find them online, they can make you anything you need and it will be a plug and play setup, no head scratching needed. and the underhood will look clean rather than a rats nest of unused wires and random wires running here and there.

Bought 87 jeep wrangler for project. look under

Autozone.com has some great wiring diagrams. I looked and your Jeep seems to be there. Go to Vehicle Repair Guide>chassis electrical>wiring diagram. You may need to register, but I think it's worth it. I'm looking at the diagram for your vehicle so if you have any trouble finding it just post a comment and I will try to assist you.

I have an 87 ss monte and the previous oner had the whole msd 6al system on it and took it off befor i got it and now im left wondering why it has voltage to the alternater and starter but no power to...

Sounds as if the Alarm was Disconnected and the Original wires were NOT PROPERLY Spliced back together, and the Wires you speak of, I would NOT TRUST Unless you can Determine that they are ORIGINAL to the Vehicle, You Must Hunt DOWN ALL ORIGINAL WIRING FOR THE IGNITION. Purple, RED PINK, YELLOW, ORANGE, Are the COLORS for the IGNITION thesr are all the MAIN Wires that Supply POWER for ALL KEY ON Components, and the PURPLE is the START TRIGGER Wire to the STARTER. rejakwilson @aol.comfor IN DEPTH Info on this, and Please EXPLAIN what you DO Have, where they are located,ETC. Hope this Helps you.!!

I try to start my car. All the lights comes on so I know that the battery is good. But the starter isn't engaging.

Fords use starter trelays and generally mount them on the left fender under the hood.If you follow the batt+ cable it will take you straight to it.Find a jumper cable and touch the cable from the battery to the cable on the other side of the relat.your mototor will crank. Then, with some in the car, have that person attenpt to crank and start.. If syll nothing, Jump the pterminal from the battery yo the little post on the relay. That little wire comes from your key. zwhen you jump it, have the ignition on and in park. If still nothing, check the negative battery cable. Remove, clean and reinstall snugly

Wiring a STARTER I A 87 SUBURBAN

I presume the two leads you mention are:-
a) very heavy main +12V power lead from the battery terminal with approx 3/8" eyelug terminal,
b) less heavy wire that connects battery power to main vehicle fusebox for power distrubution- this cable may incorporate a fusible link.
The two leads (as above) connect onto the same heavy duty 3/8" terminal on the starter motor.
The lower 3/8" power post (closest to the motor housing) connects only to the starter motor and should not normally be tampered with.
There should be one more light duty wire that operates the starter motor engage solenoid .- This is connected back to the ignition switch 'Start' +12V control output.

Mustang

Your bushings in your starter are probly worn out. Its a fairly common problem on fords. My own mustang did it often as well. The starter is right near the exhaust manifold so sometimes when it cools down it works again a few times but you will want to get your starter changed out as soon as possible.
