I assume you found the contaminates collected in the bottom of the bell housing.
remove the housing again and make sure the float switch is seated properly. If it has stuck in the low position gas will continue to feed and overflow the carb.

SOURCE: carburetor fuel flow

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, to your queries:

  • hook up all the vacuum lines - yes or cover/plug all
  • to stop fuel flow - hooking up all the vacuum lines or covering/plugging them would be technically correct but will not stop the flooding/fuel overflow;
  • run correctly - with constant overflow/flooding, it will not run correctly.
To my knowledge, overflow could only be caused by:
  • faulty valve pins, worn out rounded pyramids, necked/indentations on the surface of the rounded pyramid, cracks (rubber type);
  • worn out inlet port;
  • dirt, sand, foreign object lodged against inlet port hole;
  • mis-adjusted floats;
Which would mean, go to do it all over again.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

It sounds like it is running too rich (too much fuel). First, make sure the air filter is clean and that there are no intake leaks between the carburetor and the engine. Also, try a new spark plug (they can go bad without warning). Then, with the engine at normal operating temperature and idling, adjust the idle mixture screw to attain the highest idle speed. After this, set the idle to the correct speed using the idle speed adjustment screw.
Test ride. If it still spits and sputters at half to full throttle, then you will need to get a smaller main jet - or go to a less restrictive air filter, such as one by K&N.
Finally, I am not sure what prompted you to put a carburetor kit in, but if the bike had been sitting for any lenght of time (more than 6 months) make sure the carb isn't plugged up.

How do you clean the car orator on a Kymco scooter?

Hey Tammy,
I hope you mean carburetor -- Motorcycle carburetors have numerous tiny passages, screws that need to be removed to access some of these tiny passages, jets that need cleaning, etc.
This is NOT a job for a shade tree mechanic.. Any good motorcycle dealership SHOULD have a mechanic that can clean and set your carburetor..regardless of make!!

Have a 1976 mercedes 450sl wiring has been chew on car sat. motor runs if you pour gas in it i have 3 wires i cant see were to go one is at the frontunder dist cap two are in the back single wires round...

If it runs when you pour gas into the intake then stops you have a bad fuel pump. In 1976 most used car orators. This being a German auto at that time... Maybe had the early fuel injection using the lamda (sp?) Mechanical system... If it does then you need a mechanic with experience on mechanical fuel injection.

Loosing coolant

the test is easy
it uses the magic of the system has 12 to 14PSI pressure all the time.
hot. so park it get it hot. to 180F (old thermostats fail, they are #1 failure ,so why would you discount that?????)
ok its really hot , my pryo gun shows 180F ,ok real hot is true. no bs.
so now look for leaks.
if you see none
and the passenger toes are dry (heater core drips)
then there are on external leaks,
if true that, then its INTERNAL LEAKS!

head gasket is failing or the A/T or engine oil pan is full of AF.
are you running 50%^ AF all the time, ?????

everywhere you drive do you look after parking, for ground leaks.?
as you leave car and when you come back.
you must. or miss the boat.

I have a electric generator with a 5 horse briggs engine it was hard to start and ran with full choke. I ordered a rebuilt kit # 495606 and installed. The only way the engine will run , is to pour gas...

it has a blocked fule line and maybe blocked jets in the carb first clean all the fule lines from the tank down check the filter in the tank as well they do get rust in them, if fule is reaching the carb strip carb and clean all jets,, dont go poking wire into the jets it could distroy them check that the flote is free and lifting then clean the air filter and try starting it up,,,it should run ok then

2000 cavalier ran out of gas now it wont work

Remove the coveer to the carberator. Pour some gas into the carberator. If it runs you are not getting any gas to the carberator. It may be the fuel pump.
