Cuts out 2008 Triumph America

My 2008 America cuts out when I slow down and put it into first gear or when I stop in first gear than put it into neutral this problem is intermittent and usually when the motor's hot, not cold. @

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery must have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
2. Faulty alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. A faulty main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Faulty system relay or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Faulty ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Faulty CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Faulty neutral, side stand or clutch lever safety switch.
10. Fuel tank empty
11. Fuel tank contaminated with ethanol sludge.
12. Water or dirt in the fuel system, or clogged filter.
13. Quick disconnect check ball stuck.
14. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
15. Faulty fuel pump.
16. Faulty pressure regulator.
17. Faulty or clogged fuel injectors.
18. Lean angle switch is faulty or needs adjustment.
19. Catastrophic engine failure, perform a compression test.

SOURCE: motor cuts out when gear engaged

Make sure you have your stand up before you put it in gear. Some bikes have a stand switch that doesnt allow the bike to be in gear while the stand is down. This switch may have been damaged when the bike fell and now be malfunctioning.

SOURCE: Engine cut out, when coming

Check for vacuum leaks. If you have unmetered air entering the engine on deacceleration the fuel mixture will lean out and the engine will try to stall. Any popping from the exhaust will also be a suspect of a lean fuel mixture. Also, inspect your spark plugs and replace them if they are discolored....I hope this helps.

Hi, Tamas the ignition circuit cut-off system comprising of the side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral switch has the following functions:
a. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is up, but the clutch lever is not pulled.
b. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the clutch lever is pulled, but the side stand is still down.
c. It cuts the running engine when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is moved down.
Periodically check the operation of the ignition circuit cut-off system according to the following tests.
With the engine turned off:
1. Move the side stand down.
2. Make sure that the engine stop switch is set to "RUN"
3. Turn the key to "ON".
4. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.
5. Push the start switch if the engine does not start the neutral switch may be faulty.
With the engine still running:
6. Move the side stand up.
7. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
8. Shift the transmission into gear.
9. Move the side stand down if the engine does not stall you may have a faulty side stand switch.
After the engine has stalled:
10. Move the side stand up.
11. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
12. Push the start switch if the engine does not start you may have a faulty clutch switch.
This check is most reliable if performed with a warmed-up engine.

Downshifting problems on honda shadow spirit 750 2008 motorcycle


Some bikes will have this problem no matter what age or condition. I was taught years ago to slow down and stop in second and downshift to neutral whilst slipping the clutch. First gear on bikes is pretty low in ratio and to match speed of engine with road speed is very difficult at times, so suggest using second. Try it.

I have a 2008 hyosung gt250r. All of a sudden it has started this issue. Where i start the bike in neutral then go to get first gear and the bike just cuts out each time..so ive had to start off in second...


The problem is the side stand cut out switch - it allows you to start the bike to warm it up on the side stand but if you true to ride off with the side stand down the bike will cut out reminding you the stand is down.
If you bike is cutting out when putting it into gear after starting it is definitely the cut out switch - check the side stand there will be a switch around it some where close to were it bolts onto the frame.

Engine cuts off when put in gear


Most dual sport motorcycles have a switch at the kickstand that prevents bike from being ridden with the kickstand down. The engine will turn off if the bike is not in neutral while the kickstand is down. Make sure your kickstand is all the way up. If it is, you may have a faulty kickstand switch.

Aprilia rs 125 put the bike into gear and push it with the clutch leaver held in and its still in gear it starts fine then just cuts out when put into gear


Check for proper operation of side stand switch, clutch switch, neutral indicator lights up as it should on neutral gear position.

The 2004 Envoy has a problem with the transmission failing. It could be an electronics problem, but it sounds as though there is no pressure in the transmisssion, perhaps a bad pump.

Hi, 1997 monte carlo that idles, but cuts out when put in gear, or at times while driving. 3.1 engine. 184,000 mi.


I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a similar or maybe even the same issue with mine. It usually starts up fine, and idles and runs fine when first started, however a few blocks or a few miles down the road it starts to cut out on me, sometimes dying completely... throwing it into neutral and pumping the gas usually will keep it running. This has gone on for a couple of months. When it does die, It normally will restart after sitting for a few minutes. Then a couple of weeks ago it died on me (normally this happens when slowing down and coming to a stop,) and would not restart even after a 1/2 hr, I had to have it towed. I periodically attempted to start it for over a week, it would turn over, but nothing more...then someone suggested that I disconnect the auto start box...It started right up. However, it still continues to cut out when slowing or stopping unless thrown into neutral and pumping the gas. It seems to run better on the open highway, than it does in town with all the slower speed and stop n go. I bought this car used about 6 mos. ago, and considering it's age and the 135K miles on it, I don't want to put any more money into it. I just read there is a recall on this vehicle for the fuel pump and additionally the fuel assembly, I'm not sure if this would be the answer to the whole problem or not.

Bike runs ticks over in neutral soon as iput in gear cuts out


hi...put kickstand up 1st befor putting in gear....as this how bigger hondas work its a safety thing so u carnt ride off with side stand down...but cuts engine if kickstand still down & then wont start as you in gear.....even if kickstand up wont start in gear!!...hope this helps
