Question about 1984 Yamaha FJ 1100
I recently bought an 82 maxim that ha dno spark. Fixed that. Finally got it to fire up but it revs out of control. I have to hit the kill switch seconds after it starts. The throttle cable and operation looks normal. The carbs were supposed to be rebuilt. Not positive they were. It seems like its must be getting way too much fuel.
Any ideas? Choke also looks to be operating like normal. This is the 4 carb inline 4.
More likely too much air - runaway revs is indicative of too lean, not too rich. Regardless, it is your carbs causing the problem - strip them down and look - for peace of mind on an 82 bike, I would throw a rebuild kit at them.
