Question about 1996 kawasaki EN 500 Vulcan Classic

I have a 1994 vulcan 500. it has power going through the crank button, but will not crank. junped the starter and it turns over. no current to the starter selenoid from the switch when button is pushed. both coil packs have current,lights and signals work,

Sounds like the contacts in the switch are bad, very common on older bikes, that button gets pushed alot!1...........bypass the switch by touching the in and out hot wires and see if it cranks, if so the button needs replaced

2008 kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD will not turn over


Hi, Mike before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

Why a 1994 vulcan 500 starter spins but wont engage ?


There is a starter clutch which has a gear and a one-way Spragg. The starter gear should engage the gear inside the case; the Spragg ensures that the gear will engage with the starter is turning in a specific direction, but free wheels when the engine is running. If the gear inside the case is engaging the starter, the Spragg may be broken. In that case you will need to replace the one way Spragg. Replacing the Spragg is a major PITA!

My push button start switch not working on M/C..


Sounds like a bad relay... the relay switches all power to the solenoid to start the bike... when you let off of the starter it turns the lights etc back on. If the relay goes bad... starter button will not work, and no power to the headlight/taillight/dashlights... the relay is fairly cheep, 10 to 15 bucks....so its a pretty cheap test to see if that is what is wrong.

I have a 1999 vulcan nomad and stopped and turned it off and when i went to crank it would do nothing. I have checked everything and even replaced the magnetic switch (starter selonoid) and still...


Have you checked if the power is reaching the starter ?
And the earth lead from yhe motor to the frame for corrosion or looseness ?
If the power is getting to the starter when you press the button and the leads are all clean then the next thing to check would be for a dead field on the sarter motor. Remove the starter and turn the armature around a bit then see if it works. this can also be the case if the brushes are worn.
Whether you can get the motor to work or not if you are satisfied that power is present at the stater motor when you activate the starter button, then the starter motor needs a service or swap. Do not trust it if you get it to spin after turning it as it will let you down at the worst possible time according to Murphy.

Sounds like a stuck starter solenoid,if you can get to the solenoid tap it with the handle of a screw driver,might take a sharp rap if it quits cranking then you will need to replace it...

If you take a voltage reading at the battery when you are pushing the starter button, my guess is you will have 11-12vdc until you push the button and it will drop off. It sounds like your battery doesn't have enough current (cranking amps) to engage the starter. That is why the headlight will work until you try to start the bike and then the light goes out. It is pretty common for motorcycle batteries to go bad every 2-3 years. How old is the battery?

Car won't crank


although your ignition switch would have power go to the accessories, it still could not turn over. it happened to me, after a week of trouble shooting i went and found a starter button and spliced it into the ignition wires to see if that was the problem, lo and behold i turned the key on to run and pressed the button. and she fired right up.. if you know anyone with mechanical skill. its pretty simple to set up. took me 10 min to do.
