1996 Harley Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy engine case primary lip broke

Hi, Dwayne, I have run into this situation many times and it's usually caused by incorrect engine and transmission alignment and or loose bolts. If most of the lip is still intact then you can silicone a new o-ring into the inner primary let it dry for 24 hours then apply another layer of silicone on the exposed side of the o-ring and install the inner primary with bolts finger tight or you can grind off the remaining lip and install a special gasket kit for this situation. Starting in the middle and working outwards in a criss-cross or circular pattern torque inner primary bolts to 7 ft. lbs. grab the main shaft of the transmission and turn it to make sure it spins free, repeat the process with the torque wrench set at 14 ft. lbs. and spin the main shaft repeat the procedure a 3rd and final time with the wrench set at 20 ft. lbs. then spin the main shaft.

Harley torque specs

Primary does not have an inner cover. DO you mean the primary case???? Is it a 2005 or a 2004???

2003 harley road king inner primary torque specs

Hi Anonymous, and your torque specs are:
1. 1/4" bolts 10 ft lbs.
2. 5/16" bolts 20 ft lbs.
3. 3/8" bolts 35 ft lbs.
4. 7/16" bolts 55 ft lbs.
5. 1/2" bolts 75 ft lbs.

I have a 2008 fxdf fatbob and noticed a small oil leak running down behind the inner primary on the right hand side near the drain plug,

Can i change the stator and rotor without taking off inner primary case?

You should be as Harley has redesigned the inner primary to allow this to be done.

Do you have to remove the inter primary to change the Stator on a 1989 FXST H/D m/c.

According to the book that I'm looking at, you do not have to remove the inner primary. The opening in the inner primary is large enough for the rotor to come out without having to pull the inner primary. If the Inner primary cover does not "step down" right in the front but remains full size all the way to the outer primary, the rotor and stator will come out without having to pull the inner.

Oil leak at inner primary

Most inner primary leaks come from the alternator o-ring the best thing to do is put on a new one and put clear silicone on the primary and the engine case.
