Ticking noise and general engine noise after burnouts...

A "so called buddy" of mine borrowed my bike and was doing burnouts.Since I picked up the bike it has been making a ticking noise and generally sounds awful. Any thoughts on what damage I might be looking at?

If he was doing burnouts it could be multiple problems - overheating, too many revs, drivetrain hammered.
Certainly a lot of burnouts can cause overheating - no air and lots of revs gets things hot really fast!
High revs can result in camchain issues, piston/valves coming together, broken rings, siezed pistons, broken bearings, and much more :)
Sorry to hear this - I suggest a trip to a bike mechanic to get a diagnosis before it gets worse and costs you a packet.

2001 Dodge Stratus R/T 3.0L V6. Motor ticks on top end while running. Every couple minutes the ticking goes away and then comes back. Timing belt is original, vehicle has 145,000 miles

A ticking noise at the top of the engine suggest either sticking/worn valve lifters or wear on camshaft lobes.

An oil change won't cure any mechanical wear, but it certainly won't do any harm either..

You can also try adding an additive to the oil. There are additives for 'quietening valve train noise'. The alternative is to remove the camshaft and lifters for inspection/replacement as necessary.

With 145, 000 miles on the clock your engine has done well - but no engine doesn't wear or suffer from the occasional fault. Maintenance such as frequent oil changes negates many problems, but wear and faults do develop.

You have the original rubberised camshaft/timing belt on a 2001 car with 145,000 on the clock? You're living on borrowed time. If that belt snaps your car is history. Scrap value. Change it...

What causes a cold engine to make a ticking noise 2006 harley davidson street bob

Depends on what you are calling a ticking noise. It could be a little bit of hydraulic lifter noise which, if it is light and/or it goes away when the bike reaches operating temperature is okay/normal OR it could also be rocker clatter which may not go away completely at operating temperature but which is okay if it is a light ticking and/or it also goes away at operating tempersture.

I hear a ticking in my engine while moving. I checked the oil and it is good. You don't hear it when the bike is idling.

if its only a slight tick under load, probably just the common kawasaki v-twin noise. seems all of them have latters that are unexplainable but never get any worse. mine will be noisy at lower rpm under loads but goes away if i let the rpm go higher in all the gears. best to allow them to run at faster engine speeds as they need lots of oil to keep the overhead cams and hydraulic lifters going. they are not made to lug around.

Bike has annoying ticking noise from mostly rear cyl..bike is a 2000 shadow spirit, with 33000 miles, i was told valves needed adjustment at 30,000 miles , along with timing chain adj.. is this correct?

Without being able to stand next to the machine and listen it would be very hard to say what the noise is. Valves are generally easy to adjust and if loud have a high pitched tick sound. Cam chain adjusters generally self adjust and are reasonably quiet. If the automatic adjuster goes bad it will generally make a clatter sound or a loud clack. One thing you have not considered, if the the exhaust gaskets in the head go bad or leak air, they can also produce a loud ticking sound. You often hear this sound in older V8 engines. It sounds like a lifter is bouncing around inside the motor but the sound is caused by a blown gasket between the head and exhaust manifold. If you experience some popping/backfiring during deceleration try replacing your exhaust o-rings in the heads. This may solve both problems. If the problem is internal to the cylinder you may need to change a bad cam chain adjuster. As always start with the cheaper fixes and work your way up. Adjust valves and cam chain tensioner if not self adjusting, replace the exhaust gaskets next, and if that does not fix it, replace the cam chain tensioner. Hope this helps.

Motorcycle wont start. It turns over ok but wont start. Usually when i turn the ignition key on there is a ticking sound for a few seconds but now it doesnt do that. is that the fuel pump that makes that...

Depending on the bike of course. The Yamaha V-Stars for example have a fuel pump that make a ticking noise from their pumps. Usually they start ticking fast and slows down to a stop when pressure is built up. Rule of thumb.....if it makes noise it is working. What yamaha is this and what year is it?
