Question about Suzuki VS 800 Intruder Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Intruder 800... Runs great except my battery keeps dieing. I charge it and run a couple of starts and then it dies. Is their a alternator or something on the bike that will charge the battery when it's running? WHat is is called and where is it located on the bike? Thanks

The battery probably needs replacing. They are small and it is over 12 years old.

have your alternator checked it sounds like its putting out low voltage you can do it you have a volt meter just hook it to the battery terminals you will be looking for a range of 13.5 volts to about 14 volts if your under thirteen its not enough voltage for the car to run and charge the battery at the same time.

it sounds like you have blown fuse to the Alternator.. I don't know what car you are talking about but they charging systems vary.. But if alternator isn't getting all the power it needs it won't charge. this should be checked.

good luck

My 1987 Suzuki Intruder VS1400 runs great. However, after 20 miles or so, it starts sputtering and then dies. When I re-charge the battery, I'm good for another 20 or so, then, the same thing....

Alternator, rectifier or regulator. Chances are greater that it's the electronics rather than the coils. Check the AC voltage going into the electronics, and then check the DC voltage exiting it.

The easiest way to check if the battery is charging is to put a volt meter on the battery.
See if the voltage increases when you rev the engine beyond the battery's engine-off voltage.

My Yamaha Virago runs great till the battery dies. I've replaced the battery a couple times, the bike just doesn't keep it charged. I've heard "replace the rectifier regulator" and did that 2 or 3 times....

Sounds like you need to monitor what's going on at the battery. Hook up a volt meter to see if it's charging. Check and clean all connections / plugs. Check connections at key switch. Look over all wiring for shorts or broken wire. Disconnect everything but motor wiring to narrow down the problem. Starter drains battery faster than it can recharge.........
A dead battery will mess up a charging system and a bad charging system will kill a battery.

I have a 1994 Intruder. It only starts and runs

The hot side is running way too lean. Have your carbs synchronized may help. Try draining the bowls. Good luck.

the alternator is not charging and once you run out of battery power car dies when you let it sit battery builds a small charge enough to run short period of time.get charging system checked.

i would be looking at the voltage regulator,if the regulator is faulty the alternator will not be replacing the voltage that the bike needs to keep running
