I'm a Harley mechanic!! Every bike that I worked on in the old days had a lower tree that was like HD in that it unscrews with a nut on TOP. The threaded hole underneath is just for a cable bracket hold down screw. There should be a pinch bolt on the top tree that you loosen.

  1. Take of the top cap or cover (some unscrew with a strap wrench) and remove the stem nut after bending the tab on the lockwasher.
  2. Take off the top tree and there should be another thin nut holding/and adjusting the bearing. Take that nut off and the bottom tree falls out.
  3. If your fork tubes are still on you should loosen the top and bottom pinch bolts and remove the tubes first. You may not have to take off the top tube caps if they fit through the triple tree holes. That's it. Or, you can go to www.buyhd.com and look up exploded parts diagrams for any year hd bike until you find your exact front end.
  4. I just checked it out and they are very clear. Good Luck and let me get back to wiring my totally rebuilt '62 Panhead lowriding street slammer!! so i will simply put this way To get the triple trees off, remove the top nut and the shaft will slide out of the neck of the frame.
On the belt, if youa re talking abouot the belt in the inner primary you have to remove the motor sprocket nut and the clutch hub nut and slide both off at the same time with the belt.
If you are planning on rebuilding the motor now is the time to do it while the frame is being painted. have nice ride!! >>> cheers!!
