Any oil is better than no oil. Put some motor oil in there before you run it any more, even if it isn't exactly right.

I have a 1995 mazda protege dx with a 1.5 litter that just started nocking yesterday I don't know what it is it has 173,245 miles on it and smoke when I get on it a little and at a idle the check oil...

Sounds like a big end bearing has gone . Loose bearing (knock) smoke (excessive oil overloading oil rings) low oil pressure ( pump cannot keep up the pressure). Sorry but if it is a replacement motor is the only answer.

2006 vw passat. screen says stop! warning low oil. engine off ? what does that mean? Also servive engine now! I just bought the car yesterday and it has no owners manual. I did notice what looked like...

First, check your engine oil level , while on level ground, add if it's low. (The oil viscosity should be labeled on the oil filler cap) Blue smoke is a sign of burning oil, not a good sign. White smoke is a sign of coolant mixing with your engine oil, a worse sign.
Your computer is telling you to check your oil, so do it, or get it done.
If your oil is low, top it off and keep checking it regularly to see if your engine is consuming it. If it is, I would recommend getting it looked at for either a leak, or low compression. (Worn out piston rings will cause oil consumption and poor performance.)

My son ran his 1997 plymouth neon low on oil. It is now nocking at higher rpm. Sounds like it's coming from the top passenger side of engine. I removed the valve cover,(16vDOHC) nothing appears to be...

most likely scrubbed a bearing in the engine causing the knock not much of a quick cure for this other than replacing the engine or rebuilding

Just bought a used VW Jetta GLS. Noticed oil was a little low. Put oil in and everything was fine. Got a oil change. And drove my car 70 miles home. Woke up this morning to find a puddle the size of a 1/4...

No, this is not good. Check your oil to see how low it is. It may have lost considerably more than that in the 70 mile drive. If you have not noticed any oil leakage prior to getting the oil change, you need to return to the facility that changed your oil and have them check to see where the oil is coming from. Common mistakes at "lube joints" is failure to tighten the oil filter and drain plug, and leaving the old filter gasket on the engine. You say you just bought the car. Did you happen to notice any oil under the car where it was sitting before you bought it? If you bought it from a used car dealer, give him a call and ask if there is a problem he neglected to tell you about. If it is a serious, and potentially costly problem, you may have recourse.

I have a rattling sound coming from the engine whenever i accelerate quickly..does anyone know the cause?

sounds like it could be the engine pinking. what fuel are you using? if you are using 91 switch to 98 as low octane rating will cause engine to pink.

2002 corolla (now 91000 miles) makes rattling sound

Thats good that you are getting a second opinion. A Toyota dealer will be able to check it and see what the noise may be. See what they come up with. I dont think a worn timing chain or guides would cause a low oil pressure problem. But, if it does indeed have low oil pressure, that is a serious problem.

1998 Ford windstar oil leaked out and now there is a nocking sound on the bottom of of the engine.

If you lost all or almost all of your oil and happened to start and run the engine before you discovered the oil loss, you have probably spun a bearing. It needs to be checked by a professional but you are probably in the market for another motor. Hope this helps.

Loud knock in engine

Check the oil.It may be low or out. ethier way a knocking sound is bad news because the thing that's nocking in an engine is the pistons and that ain't cool. Do something quick.

Check the oil level. Make sure you have the right grade of oil. Now check the oil pressure sensor. It may need to be replaced.

Nocking when cold then goes away (Proton coupe )

It sounds like you may have some sludge in your oil. When the engine is cold the oil is thicker and takes a while for the oil pump to pump it through the engine. The next time you change the oil. Do an engine oil flush first to clean the inside of the engine and ports. If this does not work you might have to have the oil pump checked. There is no need to worry as long as you have oil pressure and the knocking stops. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate this answer.
