Backfiring and not wants to start now unless u lean it to the right almost to the ground

If you change the exhaust pipes, you have to sync the carbs (if you cant sync them, you have to change the carb jets), usually it is backfiring because the carbs are not in balance.

Give the bike a service and try running some fuel system cleaning additive through the system. It sounds like blocked idle jets. You may have to give the carb a clean ( the internals)

83 vt 500 shadow: the carb on the bike is

hi,i might be wrong, but the first place i would start looking is the carbs, there are two of them and it has all the symptoms of imbalanced carbs,if you have a set of carb balancers then the job is relatively easy,if not, then you will have to take it to a shop to get done, the adjustments on the carbs are very very fine, the difference between running perfect and not running well is about 1/50th of a turn on the balance adjuster screw,if the carbs have been tampered with or as is normally the case,as the bike ages and all the parts start to wear the carbs will go out of balance, and it will severely affect engine performance, get the carbs tuned up and i am pretty sure you will have a new feeling bike when you get it back..hope this helps...cheers

My 81 Honda gl 1100 was not winterized. Installed new battery. Cranking fine. Wants to start. Smell gas, probably flooded.

You should drain your gas, gas line, and carbs.
Try putting in some fresh gas and see if it wil fire up.
If not a carb rebuild is more than likely going to be needed.

Why does my VT750 2002 honda engine misfires on acceleration?

Install a new set of stock plugs. Drain the carbs. Clean the carbs. Clean or replace the air filter. If the miss is still there then have the carbs balanced and syncronized. The problem should be gone.

Over fueling and backfireing through airbox

Your bike has a compression release if I recall correctly. Chances are that the compression release cable got stretched or kinked when the bike went down on the black ice. This means that the valves are not fully seated and THAT is probably why you now have the backfiring. As far as the carb floats go, chances are they are perfectly okay. If a float were stuck open then fuel would be leaking from the overfill tube. If the floats were stuck closed then the bike would not be running at all.
Check the compression cable and linkages for problems. Be certain the compression lever functions freely and properly. Also, check the carb cables. Be sure the carbs are balanced and in sync. Doing these things should fix the problem.

1985 shadow 500 won't accelerate in 6th gear

The bike only has 47 hp and weighs around 400 lbs without rider
I wouldn't expect much acceleration in top gear
Get a tune up I can't remember if it's a single or dual carb but if it's a dual make sure they balance the carbs
