SOURCE: where is the oil filter on my yamaha V-star 1100

On the right side of the bike (right side when ou are sitting on it) just above the rear brake lever behind a small circular plate. remove the plate and the oil filter is inside (you will easily see it). Warning---on these bikes you have to drop the front exhaust header and right floor board in order to change the oil filter unless you install a after market oil filter relocation kit. If you plan on changing your own oil it is highly recommended to install this relocation kit.

SOURCE: Yamaha motorcycle stiff clutch

Disconnect the cable at the engine. Does the cable move freely when disconnected? If it does, remove the left side cover then check the operation of the clutch arm. Does it move freely and spring back freely? If not then clean it up. If it does move freely, remove the clutch push rod from the center case. Roll it on a flat surface. Does it roll smoothly or does it sort of lope along. If bent, replace it. If rolling smoothly then put it back in the center-case and remount the side casing. Lube the clutch cable and remount it also. The adjuster #23 should be screwed in until it is snug then back off the screw 1/4 turn.

Assuming no one has tinkered with the actual clutch and it was operating properly a few months ago or when it was put up for the winter, now is the time for an oil change. Dirty, gritty oil can stiffen a clutch big time. Drain the oil and refill with 10w40 motor oil. No synthetics or oils with "special" additives or friction reducers. No oil marked ECII. Just normal motor oil. Shell, Mobil, Pennzoil, etc., the major brands. Ride the bike for an hour or so then change the oil again. Doing this will flush most all of the grit from the gearbox. Hey, oil ain't that expensive. This should take care of the problem.

A “very helpful” rating on this answer? Thanks!

SOURCE: Synthetic or regular oil, who's right

for best results, just use good old 20w50, the god of oils for motorcycles, and buy from a good make , not cheap wall mart stuff. change the oil at least once a year , twice is better. synthetic has no bussiness in a bike engine. ive been repairing and riding over 30 yrs

SOURCE: Can Synthetic blend oil be used with a Yamaha 1100

Yes, Yamaha makes regular,semi-,and full synthetic oil for there motorcycles. Make sure the oil you use is JASO MA certified for motorcycle use. Do not use any oil that says energy conserving, it will shorten the life of your clutch and drive gears. Amzoil and Mobile 1 both make good motorcycle oil (full synthetic). Full synthetic is often the same price as semi-synthetic.

As long as the oil does not have the "energy saving" designation in the rating emblem, synthetic work just fine in the Boulevard.

What type of oil should I use for my used 1994 yamaha virago

Your machine came from Yamaha with 20w-40 JASO MA motorcycle oil. Use any oil that has the JASO MA rating on the label. 10W-40 for cooler climate and 20W-50 for warmer climates. Do not use any oil that says "Energy Conserving" on the label, they can shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. Synthetic oils will help your engine run cooler and shift easier. An inexpensive full synthetic oil that is JASO MA rated and available every where is Shell Rotella T 15W-40 synthetic oil (about $23 a gallon).

What motor oil should I use or can I use for my 94 kdx 200??

Use only synthetic oil with the JASO MA rating for Japanese engines . Any automotive oil that is energy conserving will cause excessive wear on you clutch plates and drive gears. Automotive synthetics are not designed for motorcycle wet clutches and can cause slipping or even failure of a motorcycle clutch plates through over lubrication. An inexpensive full synthetic oil to try would be Shell Rotella T synthetic (about $22 per gallon). Do not use automotive synthetic oil in your motorcycle, it could end up costing you a lot of time and money. Look for the JASO MA Rating on the bottle.

When i was parking my bike this morning I noticed it was extremely hard to shift into nuetrel and into the the other grears. This all happened after I stopped the bike and was parking it. Would this be the...

Many problems involving hard shifting in motorcycles can be attributed to using the wrong type of oil. Automobile oils use different additives . Motorcycle additives are designed to work with wet clutches and transmission gears not used in cars. You should use any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Do not use any oil that says Energy Conserving on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you use Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. I use synthetic oil in my 1976 Goldwing . It will not go into neutral on a hot days after freeway driving and full synthetic oil solves the problem of sticky shifts. This may not be what is causing the problem in your cycle but it is worth a try. Both Kawasaki and Suzuki offer inexpensive full synthetic motorcycle oil by the Quart.

2nd service V star 1300 4000 miles can or should i use castrol gtx oil ?or is it best to use the yamaha brand ?

Use motorcycle oil. It should have the JASO MA rating on the bottle . Do not use any oil that says Energy Conserving on the label , it will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears(wrong additives). Use 10w-40 for colder climates and 20w-50 for warm climates/touring. Synthetics will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. Amsoil and Mobile 1 make good motorcycle oil. Yamaha full synthetic (all there oil) is kind of expensive. Suzuki has a 15w-50 full synthetic that is reasonable ($7 a quart last time I got it)

How much and what of oil is the best kind of oil for a yamaha r1 2007 with 8000 miles

Full synthetic oil will work the best for your bike. Synthetic has been over-engineered in a good way.

P.S: DO NOT USE car synthetic oil as they have TOO MUCH friction modifiers (not good for wet clutch).

What transmission oil do i need for 2005 yz125?

10w40 motor oil. DO NOT USE SYNTHETICS. Just use the basic motor oil with no "Special" additives. The additives / synthetics can swell or shrink the clutch friction plates.
