Question about 1985 Yamaha FJ 1100
Got an old 84 fj1100, pulled oil cap of today and noticed it was half full further inspection i noticed it was fuel,i presume thats a sign the rings are badly worn?
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
While it is possible for the rings to be worn considering the age, only a compression test could confirm this.
Alternately, the possibility is that the carbs flooded and overflowed into the engine through the intake manifold at one time inknown to you. Draining the contaminated oil from the engine and replacing the oil in most cases should address the issue.
Of course if flooding still occurs, it may be necessary likewise to pull out the carbs for a cleanup with particular attention to the valves coupled to the floats.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
