Question about 1977 Honda GL 1000 (K2)

2 Answers

1977 Honda GL1000 Goldwing. I replaced the water pump because it was leaking and now the engine is overheating. I just idle engine for 5-10 minutes and the temp gauge goes to hot. the fan starts but not until temp gauge is pegged. I have tested thermostat, put different temp gauge on and tested fan switch, all seem fine. Any suggestions. Thanks

how would I go about pressurizing system with water ?

  • dbrevig Aug 06, 2009

This problem has been resolved. It ended up being the 7V regulator that feeds the temp and fuel gauge.

    Thanks for the input

This issue has been resolved. It ended up being the 7v regulator that controls the temp and fuel gauge was bad.
    Thanks for the input

I have a few 1977 GL-1000 bikes.
I thought one was overheating but it turned out that the 9 volt regulator was fried and was putting 12 volts to the temperature gauge. Temperature was really OK. The fan switch is probably not lying

Hi, Pennieemann2 and the usual suspects are:
1. Idle speed improperly adjusted.
2. Air fuel mixture screws not properly adjusted.
3. Inlet system air leak.
4. Leaking accelerator pump.
5. Loose low-speed jet.
6. Plugged low-speed jet.
7. Contaminated or plugged low-speed circuit.
8. Enrichner valve/choke not seated or leaking.
9. Multi carburetors out of sync and need to be balanced.

You guys told the guy with the goldwing clutch problem that the goldwing stator could be replace without pulling the engine. How?

Gl1500 and GL1800 have external alternators that can be easily changed. The GL1000, GL1100, and GL1200 you have to remove the motor completely or at least unbolt it and rotate it enough to get the rear cover off.
