You made a mistake when you timed it. Retime using the correct procedure and your bike will start.

Hi Anonymous, roll the engine over untill all pushrods are as low as possible, torque rocker boxes in a criss cross pattern in 5 lb. increments, manually roll over engine slowly without spark plugs before firing to make sure all the children have enough room to play. Good luck

How do i remove the cams from the gearcase on a 2000, 1200 sportster?

Taking the cams out of a Sportster engine is a major job. You'll have to pull the rocker box covers, the heads, the pushrods and tubes. Then you'll have to take the ignition unit out of the timer cavity on the right gearcase cover and pull all four tappets out. Then, you can pull the gearcase cover off to access the cams. There are four cams under the cover. They all have to be timed with the engine and each other. This is a complicated job but it can be done by an experienced amateur if he or she has a service manual. I'd strongly advise the purchase of a service manual for this job as this is one of the times that the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" is actually true.

Good Luck

Rebuiling timing gears in a 2006 sportster 1200 xlc. Need a picture or reference for gear replacement and cam position

wd4ity.jpg
The cams are numbered 1 through 4 starting at the rear going towards the front. The new oil pumps do not have to be timed like the '76 and earlier models did. Install #1 cam, install #3 and #4 cams and time them with each other then install the #2 timing it with the pinion gear, the #1 and the #3 cam.

Good Luck

Cam assembly 2001 xl1200 custom

I don't understand what you are wanting to know. You said "reinstall 4 cams". If you've taken the cams out of a Sportster, you need a book. Reinstalling the cams in Sporty is much too complicated a subject to tackle here. The biggest thing is get the right cam in the right position. Cam number 1 and cam number 4 look a lot alike. You also need to make sure your timing marks are aligned correctly. Lot's of timing marks. I'd suggest the purchase of an original Harley-Davidson manual for your particular bike.
