Sounds like the throttle cable is sticking or the carburetor butterfly is sticking.
Squirt some WD-40 into the cable that attaches to the throttle handle and onto the mechanism the cable hooks to at the carburetor. Carefully actuate the throttle and see if the mechanism is moving smoothly. It may need several squirts and some actuation before it become free.

Find the cable that goes from the throttle lever and detach it from the carburetor, if it goes back to idle then the problem is in the throttle lever assembly, if it will not go back to idle then the problem is in the carburetor/ throttle connection.

With no more information provided, I would make sure that the throttle cable was not stuck thus preventing the throttle from returning to its idle position. Try manually moving the throttle closed at the carburetor. Possibly spray some WD-40 on the throttle cable ends to help loosen it up then reply with your results.

SOURCE: Engine runs fine on 2-cycle Mantis tiller, but

Your problem is a common one on Mantis tillers. The engine sounds like it is not breathing properly. I have fixed dozens of these problems and it is almost always the spark arrestor clogged up. The spark arrestor is found inside a small housing on the muffler (easy to fix). There are 3 screws that need to be removed to get the muffler cover off, then you will see a small housing a little over an inch long with another 3 screws...remove them and you will see a small screen that is probably clogged. Clean it and the housing with a solvent (I usually use carb cleaner) then re-install the arrestor and reassemble the muffler cover. This will fix your problem about 80% of the time.

If that is not the problem you may need to fix the carburetor (take my advice and just buy a new one...not much more expensive than the repair kit and a lot simpler.

SOURCE: tiller engine runs but the tines will not turn

You should look at gear box oil and see if there is metal in the oil.If there is you will need to check the gears for excess wear. Also make sure rpms are in the operating range.Let me know what you find.

King Kutter 6ft tiller. It hit a metal fence post. The tiller will not turn, bogs down tractor. Where do I start?

You checked for a piece of post or rock stuck in the tines?

You should be able to turn the PTO shaft by hand. Suggest you disconnect the PTO shaft from the tractor and make sure the problem is the tiller.

The tiller end of the pto shaft has both a slip clutch and a shear pin to protect the gear box and tine shaft drive gear. See attachment.

If you are unable to turn the PTO shaft by hand with it disconnected from the tractor then likely there is something jambed in the tines or internal damage to the gear box or tine shaft gear drive.

Parts diagrams are in the owners manual. Manuals are free download at https://www.kingkutter.com/manuals4_14_2023_11_23_17_pm.jpg

Tiller tines will not turn. Engine runs fine...

Well hopefully it's not the transmission, as sometimes these tend to go. Another common but cheaper repair are the two bearings where the tines connect to the unit.

MORE THAN LIKELY.. The bearing is located above the worm gear housing, the part connected to the tines beneath the guard. This removal can be somewhat frustrating but if you remove it and remove the engine flange you'll be able to manually spin the drive shaft and see if it's the worm gear housing/lower bearings or if it's the more likely bearing on the clutch drum or the clutch itself.

Honda FG100 Tiller - Tines wont move

I took the transmission apart and the gears were fine. The friction pads on the centrifugal clutch don't seem to make full contact with the drum. Does anyone know what the thickness of the friction pads are suppose to be? I used some belt dressing on the pads and got some movement on the tines. With no wear on the gears, I guess I'll be replacing the clutch.

Try better quality gas. I had the same problem. Ethanol too high in lower grade gas. Buy better grade or ethanol free. Mine works fine with better gas.

My rear tine tiller lurches out of control when I use it

Hi it sounds like you are trying too till the soil with the tiller in the fast position and probably too deep for your first pass. Really the fast position is for transporting the tiller from the field. Try putting the tiller in slow which would be the down position. Turn the throttle all the way foward, engage the tines and push your depth rod on the back down to where it is only going into the soil about four inches or even less depending on the hardnes of the soil. Even though a Troy is the best Tiller made it will try to run away with you when your trying to hog the soil all at once. Your depth setting is very important and people seem to forget the importance of adjusting it. Try these things, and remember to alway's start your tilling in the slow full throttle position. Lowering your depth a little at a time. Till you find the appropriete feed for your speed.
