Question about 2006 Yamaha Road Star

1 Answer

I have a 2006 midnight roadstar silverado and I am having trouble with fuel dumping out of the carb when I start it. This doesn't happen all the time but usually it is hot and it sometime sounds like the fuel pump keeps running. I know this sounds crazy but it is true other times you don't hear the fuel pump and it just runs out. any suggestions?

What oil do i run in my yamaha roadstar silverado

Any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Car oils use different additives. Do not use any oil that says Energy Conserving on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you use Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift easier.

Fuel overflows (leaks) upon turning Roadstar 1700

not a throttle valve, but the float needle valve that shuts the fuel off with the float. the only cure for the sticking floay valve is to remove the carb and clean it.

During a ride in the Nevada desert, my friend and I both experienced a situation where after parking our bikes, we tried to start them and they were flooded. In fact, they had gas squirting out of the air...

Sounds like you got something in the carbs that got into the float needle and keep it from shutting all the way to stop the fuel from filling the float bowls. And when this happens it has know where to go but up threw the main jet and into the intake and into the combustion chamber which would flood it. And also it would leak back from the carbs and into the air box.
The air cleaner needs to be clean so you wont get dirt into the carbs and also put a inline fuel filter on if the is not one already.

Carb puking gas

I had this same problem. What I discovered was the float needs adjusted on the carb. I set mine lower inthe bowl and it stopped the leaking. Reason for this happening is on hot days the fuel in the bowl will boil. This boiling action dumps in more fuel and the carb spits it out the air breather.
