Question about 2000 kawasaki ZRX 1100

1 Answer

Drove bike to gym. Tried starting it 2 hours later. NO GO.

Drove bike to gym. Parked it and noted afterwards the fuel valve was on Pri. Tried starting later and heard clicking coming from the starter solenoid. Replaced battery (it is original '99) and troubleshot as best I could with no diagram. Noted today that crankcase is full of gas!! Drained gas and will fill with oil, flush and drain after getting it started. Fuel valve is now permanently in ON position. Why did it fill with gas? Checked kickstand switch, clutch switch and start switch all seem good. Only getting 11.0 volts at starter solenoid from start switch circuit. Can you help? Thanks,

Sounds like you may have more than one problem. as far as the fuel......the prime position allows gas to flow continuous without the need of the fuel pump. as far as the 11 volts is that with the key on or off? what are the volts at the battery terminal?

sorry didn't actually see the post before my first comment, if it is only when the bike is warm or hot but not over heated I would suspect the same thing, faulty starter. "replace or rebuild"

While the key is in the last position before the start or during starting, check if you are getting fuel to the fuel line to the engine. If there is none then the fuel pump fuse or relay may have gone bad or the fuel pump itself.

check fuel pressure, check filters , bad fuel or water in fuel is a common problem with diesel fuel.start simple, turn key to on ,,can u hear fuel pump. remove filter check condition see if water in filter.they have 2 or more filters. prime pump per manual try again.

Lt-f250x fuel vale has on- res-pri what is the pri position for

( PRI ) is the primer position for the petcock ( fuel valve) . This position is used for a couple of reason. this kind of valve works off vacuuum from the carbs, but if you run out of fuel you or remove the tank you can't create vacuum, so putting the valve into the PRI position allows fuel to flow inton the carbs without vacuum so you can start the bike. Once the bike has started you should switch the valve back to the ON position ON= normal position, PRI= primer position, RES= reserve postion. I hope this helps!!!

Change your fuel filter, it may have gone it's life time and is getting to dirty to let fuel flow properly. Your fuel pump to may be getting weak, if the fuel filter is dirty the pump works harder and heats up and could be over heating the fuel pump relay too. The fuel pump relay i believe is in the glove box behind a panel that say relay, there should be (3) in there and the middle one is the fuel pump's. switch then around after you change the fuel filter and if you get a chance, check your fuel pressure at the shredder valve. Good luck and hope this help's if there is a Auto Zone around you, you can ask to use the fuel pressure gauge to see what fuel pressure you have and they'll have the step by step instructions on how to do it and takes about 5 min to do and will have the fuel filter and step by step to replace that too. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

Car won't start

Your fuel pump is sticking and not pumping, this is common if you run the fuel down to less than 1/4 full, the fuel pump needs the gas to cool itself, below a 1/4 tank the pump is not getting cooled and after repeatably running low on fuel it overheats and fails. Running the car near 1/2 tank extends the pump life to many years more than running tank below a 1/4 full..
